Belford is where I will probably end up getting my PHD from and a Mooncup is some sort of fluid collection device?

Stu? What is Stu? I am basically an imposter. I am not even doing a PHD. I came on here to garner some information/opinions to guide my decision making for NEXT year (2007) and should really have left long ago, but everytime I log on, I am tempted to see if anyone has any gems of advice for me. I then get dragged into some of the hot debate on here, because I can't resist giving my two peneth.

Popular book that Bible. I bet this God fella was well chuffed that its shifted so many. I wouldn't have thought he would be that bothered about his work being tampered with seeing as the editors have obviously done a cracking job on it. Its really been flying off the shelves AND sales have held up for a long while now. Maybe it is time for him to release a (book version of a) directors cut though, with all the Mary Magdelene not being a Prossie thrown in.

My personal view of "the truth" is that Jesus was Mary Magdelenes pimp. It was actually Noah that got her up the duff (hence the "Ark" in raiders of the lost Ark. - thats a little clue for us). Jesus pumped all the money she took into PR and the carpentry business.

So you can become an A-level teacher (they are over 16, so this is not morally wrong in any way) in an All-girls school by any chance?

Dan, I don't understand...You want All Girls schools and All boys schools but mixed teaching?

I think having all girls schools who recruit 50% male teachers would be a honeypot for lecherous pedophiles. If you don't think this is a big issue, I suggest you buy the Express on a tuesday to get an idea of the sheer scale of the pedophile menace sweeping the nation.

Personally (and this isn't supported by any particular research) I think its better for girls and boys to be taught by both men and women (in as close to a 50/50 split as possible).

So Dan, you would rather beleive someone with a straightforward, easily understandable argument, than people who are constantly in disagreement over details and facts. I wonder which side you'd back in the old Evolution vs. Creation debate?

Just guessing, but if you find it impossible to communicate with the opposite sex, and your supervisor is of the opposite sex, then yes, it may be a problem. Also, if your supervisor suffers from this kind of problem, it may also be awkward.

As for women in academia, I think its disgusting for a number of reasons:

- They are taking up positions that could be filled by men
- They are very tempermental
- They are, by nature, emotional beings rather than logical. Science is all about logic.
- They could distract the men from work with sexy walking and perfume
- Their hair is a fire risk (Women should always have long hair)
- Someone needs to be cooking the dinner, tidying up and getting the shopping in

No doubt someone will be offended by some of these valid points, but what can you do when the PC brigade ride roughshod over good old fashioned common sense and values?

Job for you science types?

He's pretentious as well....

From Kent, but talks with an American accent.

NB...sorry if either the content of the joke, or the fact I robbed it of Ricky Gervais offends anyone.

Yes, thats the paper.

I was shocked and suprised to see this news dominate the front page. Not because it is about 40 years too late, but because the front page is traditionally reserved for Princess Diana related things on a Wednesday.

Surely everyone knows that the timetable is:

Monday: The influx of scrounging Eastern Europeans is on the cusp of destroying our great nation.

Tuesday: All asylum seekers (terrorists to the layman) are given a free house and £50K on arrival

Wednesday: Princess Di

Thursday: Anti-social behaviour "spiralling out of control"

Friday: PC brigade "go mad"

Servilla? Is that anywhere near Seville?

RE: obesity; The Express today reports (on the front page) a "New Scientific discovery" that eating a high protein diet can help you lose weight. If only Dr Atkins had thought of such a trouble-free, easy, enjoyable way of losing weight.

India?

You can fly to Mumbai for £299 ret. Not sure whether there are nice beaches there, but there certainly are in Goa, a region with a lot more history and things to see than many people realise.

Maybe the Stingray had watched his programme, guessed at what was coming and got a blow in early.

Steve Irwin: conservationist? Maybe...

To me, he made fame by taking irresponsible risks with animals. There was usually some sort of motivation for wrestling with the biggest, most dangerous crocodile he could find: fitting a radio-tracker or something, but this was always secondary to the "action."

Lets face it: "Conservation" wasn't the reason why he was famous. "Croc-wrangling" as well as irritating other animals was. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for someone killed while (I think its safe to assume) trying to wrestle a stingray.

I have heard people comparing him to a "happy-slapper", assaulting animals while getting his mates to film it. I think this is an apt discription of his career.
