Social constructionism does accept "objective" stuff. It does accpet that there are some things around us that follow a "naturalistic" law (is there a word like that???? Sorry English is not my first language...)
Burr, in her book "Social Constructionism" has a reallhy good, basic description of what SC is.... I think it is explained much easier than Giddens and it is certainly much much easier to understand than Bourdieu....
Well done to all!!!!!!
I managed to finish with my goals and my paremts manage to finish with changing radiators, too!!!!! And this is very good for me because 1) I can work undistrurbed, and 2) they won't have to move to my house for the night as it is freezing outside!!!! (I am a bad daughter, I know!!!!!) :p I love them and they know it! And they don't "take advantage" of me.....even if I complain sometimes.....
So all (family) goals: DONE!!!!!!
Goodnight everybody!!!
All the people I know have the name they had when they started studying...
So, if you start your PhD as Miss/Mr Brown and then you get married/change your name and become Mrs/Mr Smith, you have "Brown" on your certificate. But if you were Mrs/Mr Smith whnen you started, then you have Mrs/Mr Smith on your certificate....
In Greece unitil 1981 or 1982, women were obliged to change their names after marriage. So my mum (Miss Z) became Mrs X after she married my dad (Mr X). But when they got married she was still studying. Her degree has Ms Z written on it, and all her working life she was Ms Z...When she retired the bank had problems, as on her id (which she had to change after marriage ) she was Mrs X, but all the documents for her retirement were for Ms Z..... Complicated!!!!!!!!!!!
Now women in Greece have the option to keep their name!
Hi all!!!!!
It's really winter here today....the temperature is almost zero and I feel really cold.... but I have to work!
Also, my parents, who are living across the street, are changing their radiators and they keep calling me to run their errants...Grrrrrrr....But I have to work!!!!!!!!!
So, because I HAVE TO WORK, my goals for today are:
1) Read an article and take notes
2) Take a look at NVivo report
3) Organise the next section of my chapter
Ok....That was it for today...
I don't have any more power to keep going......
I managed to do more coding for half of my interviews. The other half will be done tomorrow...
Now I am off for a dance performance where the performers are handicapped people...
Have a nice evening!!!!!!
Hi all.
After spending almost all morning (got a day off from work) trying to find a solution to a problem with NVivo (oh I hate it!!!!!) and not find one, at the end, it's time to set some new goals for today.
So,
Goal 1: Read a paper on the section that I have to write
Goal 2: Read another paper relevant to what I have already written
Goal 3: Go to the gym
Good luck everybody!

After trying to solve this all morning, I met a new problem/message...
"The service SQL Server (QSRNVIVO) failed to start. Please see your system administrator to resolve this problem"
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
======= Date Modified 08 Nov 2011 10:34:28 =======
I had analysed my data using Nvivo.
I was using my datavbase with several computers and I had no problems.
Today I tried to open my database on my laptop and I got the following message:
"Login failed for user 'emmaki-PC/emmaki'. Reason: Server is in sigle user mode. Only one administrator can connect at this time"
Of course, this is my project and I have created it and I am the only one working on it.
As you probably understand I am very frustrated because I can't work....
Does anybody have any solution?????????
As I understand GT (and I may be wrong) there is no right or wrong number of intreviews.
You start coding when you start having common themes and you stop coding when there is nothing new...
I guess if you are having common themes with 7 interviews start coding, and continue interviewing
Hey!
@Sneaks: I am sure you can do it despite the noise! Try to cut it off (is there such an expression????)...
@everybody: Keep on going with your work!!!!
Today I was walking around sunny and warm London. It is strange, but in Greece there hasn't been any sun for weeks, not to mention warm weather....
So, no PhD work for me today, and I guess I won't do much tomorrow also...
I will start again on Monday when I am meetong my sups and I get feedback.....
Keep on going!!!!!!!
