i love this forum - it,s a great font of knowledge but most of the forumites seem to be humanities/arts based. so who is in science?????????????
Thanks alot - some really good tips (enough to earn you your first star :p)
I'll definitely have to watch out for the speaking too fast mistake - I have a really soft voice and have to in effect shout so that people can hear me - for some reason this seems to make me speak faster too.
I'll try writing out the first sentence -I've never done that before
I'm doing a presentation skills workshop next week and need to prepare a 5 minute presentation which will be video-taped and critiqued. I know I'm going to learn lots at the workshop but does anyone have any tips to get me going?? I hate presenting and just don't want to be the worst of the 10 of us on the day.
Congrats Sneaks (up) Woohoo - very brave!!!
Well today should be a seminal day for me -I'll know one way or the other if the method I've chosen will work or if I need to o another route. So goal 1- chase up the guy I need to find ( I called him yesterday at 4 and left a message but he hasn't gotten back to me - when would you call him again??? I don't want to annoy him as he's doing me a favour but I need to see him today)

I don't know why this post came out funny - I couldn't get the article but I see above you've gotten hold of it anyway :-)
I think it might be because you changed the location of the library??
I've never seen a flashing collar before Joyce - great idea!!
As for the extra hour on Sunday - well I'll be in the office tomorrow so Sunday will be my day of rest -I really want to go out for brunch because I've never done it before and I really want to try a Bloody Mary :$
Hot water bottles all the way!!!! They're cheap and effective!
I hate when it gets colder because the dog has to wear her coat and people stare because she looks pretty silly (b/f got her a luminous yellow one so that she could be visible to traffic). But she can't go outdoors for long without it - the breed just aren't equipped for the cold - not enough body fat :-(
Sorry I can't get it either Natassia.
Sent it to you - let me know if you don't get it
i can get it- pm me if nobody has sent it to you already
I haven't done my transfer yet - probably will have to in the next couple of months. I did attend one recently though and the student was repeatedly asked "what's new about your work?", "what's your original contribution to the field?" etc. So I think it's important to stress that in your report and presentation it you can at all.
Hi Helena,
I've only submitted two conference abstracts so far. The first was for a big international conference and I did get an acknowledgement e-mail. The other was for a national conference and the first e-mail I got from them was after the deadline for submission to say that the abstract had been accepted! And yes it is usual practice to notify speakers of acceptance/decline after the submission deadline (sometimes WAY after!!)
Some non-PhD work to do today - do goal 1- 2 tomatoes

Hmmm well if it were me and there was little chance of bumping into this guy again I would go with option c - unless you really liked him and want to get in touch again - which I'm assuming isn't the case since you can't entirely recall what happened.
From talking to friends though, I've realised it's worse for people who are rarely so drunk that they aren't really in control than for people who are regularly in this state - I'm thinking of some of my undergrad classmates - apparently nobody really batted an eyelid no matter what they did/said - everyone was just used to it.
