Struggling With Essay Structure: Please Help!

M

Hello everyone,

I was wondering whether anyone (who is rather good at writing essays) can help.

I am analysing a particular public policy through assessing its implementation in two particular contexts. I have all my research and I even have all my arguments typed up and referenced. However, I am failing to piece together the arguments in a way that makes sense and have therefore hit a very depressing stumbling block (just days before the essay is due).

Have any of you had this experience before? Do you know if there are any good tutors out there who specialise in helping with essay structure? Are you yourself willing to lend me 20 minutes of your time to chat with me?!

I've tried to turn to Google, but all I find are 'essay writing service' websites plaguing the search pages!

Any advice/help would be very much appreciated!!

Sincerely, a very stressed out postgrad.

Just chuck everything together, what's the worst you are going to get, 60%? Does that really matter?

(Sorry I'm feeling particularly negative at the moment)

Hello Miamia. Very sorry to hear how stressed out you are. First things first, grab a cup of tea or work on something else for a bit. Sometimes your brain just needs a chance to digest the information.

Then, i usually think about the final message first. Whats the point? The take home message? Then you can work backwards.

Without knowing the particulars, its hard to give exact advice - but think of it as a guided tour. You are guiding people through the theory and down the path you walked to make your final decision. Subheadings are good to identify the two arguments, just remember to have the paragraph after the arguments to tie them together over the essay question.

Good luck, and relax. You are able to do it.

Hello Miamia! Considering essay writing is hard work, nobody wants to write their own essay. That explains the presence of so many writing services of late.

As for your essay, what you're trying to put in place, is called a compare/contrast essay - http://www.ssag.sk/files/How-to-write-a-Comparative-essay.pdf

There are different types of essays and the structure of each type is slightly different from the other.

Although there is no specific formula to write an essay, there are guidelines that can help. Since you have your outline ready, structuring it shouldn't take much time/efforts.

Here's more information - http://www.studymode.com/resources/essays/how-to-outline-and-structure-an-essay

I'll be glad to help if you can give me further details.

And yes, don't worry. You're not the first person this has happened to and you sure won't be the last ;) So, relax :) All the very best!
