I've been like that too, veering from one to the other and back again.... I'm getting all angsty about how quickly I can get things published, but at the same time I really want a decent rest this summer. One of our Readers said you need a brain rinse after completing, if it was physically possible, to start feeling normal again, but the cuts happening around me seem to add more of a sense of urgency to get stuff done quickly. Looking at a few people I know, it seems to have taken them about 2 years to get the most from their PhDs after completion, in relation to different jobs and publications.
