Thanks for your explanation... I found it useful! My situation is that I work in industry and am looking to gain a PhD to help achieve the longer term aim of becoming a business consultant. The PhD by published work route seems to be the best method as I will be able to vary my research time scales according to the publishable developments within the company and ideally without committing large sacks of cash.
Does anyone know if this route is only available to staff or alumni of a particular university?
Dear Forum,
Currently considering studying a PhD, but I am unsure if my motivations are right?
I am doing a Masters but don't intend to stay in research and would simply like to study a PhD to allow me to progress my career further.
What would a PhD give me that a Masters and 3/4 years industrial experience wouldn't? Does anyone know of published salary figures of people who have studied PhD's - is it worth the investment of time and money if I don't intend to be an academic?
Your thoughts would be much appreciated.....
I am currently searching for a full time PhD, but a little unclear about the basic setup... Where are you expected to study it? Does every student get given a nice little desk in the University somewhere or do you only spend time in Uni when your meeting with your supervisor and do the majority of the work from home?
