Quote From stacybla:
Hey Satchi,

There must be positive reasons why you've got rejected. Do not be depressed. Instead, think of the positive side of the coin. First, something great must be waiting for you. Just wait for that moment.

Cheers!

Sorry to butt in on the post but I feel what has been highlighted surely MUST apply to me as well as I have been waiting for it. I once got offered a job, but the company went back on their word :( *sigh*

That's Durham Uni AND Manchester Uni applied for and yesterday I applied via a website for a Medicinal chemist but they didn't have any jobs.

No one is willing to take you without experience? and yet you have people who are on linkdin saying you should hire incompetant people?

I dunno how long I can take of it and I have in the covering letters supplied the Email details of the uni office for getting the course info whilst I am waiting for the letter.

I do mention about the different fields in my personal statement. In my case, I can do some molecular biology and microbiology as I did it at college and in my first degree. I also did the more herbal stuff as I am interested in indole alkaloids and low and below they appear in plants. (You need botany for phytochemistry).

(still waiting for the letter from the uni about the course closing)

I myself can do 2 or 3 fields as I did my PGCert project in cannabinoids, my DipHE project on Antimalarials and I did some neuroscience as well as medicinal chemistry in my MSc.

Rejected from Dundee uni also :(

Sorry to say more and more places are asking for firsts and merits. Although for a "lesser" university, you should get onto it no problem. The employers / supervisors have the pick of graduates.

I have an ordinary degree and a masters, I just missed a distinction in a unit for 1%. I am finding it tough myself for my local unis :(

Quote From satchi:
hi janineG
what do you mean by "the course had to close"? did you do your BSc in Dundee? Is there someone from your old university who can give you a phd studentship?

My first supervisor once offered me a studentship if I didn't get the phd I was applying for. I thought that was really nice of him but I was interested in another topic.

love satchi

I got my BSc at RGU. The Aberdeen supervisor I had during my PGCert project was on that PhD I was turned down for and the lack of honours was cited. I seem to be stuck where I am again, the lack of honours seems to be the issue at hand.

Quote From journey:
So here is some positive news to add to this thread. This week i received a job offer for a permanent full-time lectureship and two invitations for interviews for two more lectureships! From countless lectureship rejections over a period of almost 2 years to an actual offer of employment and interview invitations in a single week is quite incomprehensible! I swear I've not done anything different and I don't have any new publications. Maybe persistence is important and someone somewhere might be willing to employ you but it's just a matter of time until your paths cross. Anyway, I hope that this post will encourage those drowning in rejections who are feeling so gloomy about their career prospects that it is possible to get an academic job and what you are going through is just temporary. You never know which of those applications might lead to an offer. So don't give up!

That is excellent news!!

Send Email about Dundee applications and I have sent an Email to the faculty for my BSc to get the course explanation. Lets hope that can give me a hand. Whyyyy did that course have to close, couldn't they have let me do the honours year? I was held up over exams in organic synthesis and the sequencing for that!
