Thanks, I am reading everything I can get my hands on about PhD's, Im trying to get plenty of notes and things together.

Hi there all, i have been invited to a uni to discuss my research proposal further with a potential supervisor and the programme director. I approached them and after email discussions they have asked me down. I havent formally applied, eg completed the application form yet.

I will be doing the PhD part time, which they are fully aware of.

Has anyone any suggestions of we might discuss, if this is like a first stage interview. Any advice would be great!

I want to apply for October 2012 entry part time most prob Surrey Uni if possible for PHD Crimninology/Social science area. Does anyone know when they are likely to advertised studentships and also offer any advice here....

Should i apply normally for a place on the programme for 2012 entry, eg normal application form + proposal, contact prospective supervisors....then when the studentiships come out apply for them?

Its just so confusing reading their whole process for when it was entry this october...

Any advice id be very grateful

Hi all, I see all the uni's advertising their 1+3 awards etc and the closing dates are March/April. Does anyone have any idea how long then it takes for the ERSC/uni to make a decision and tell you if you have place and the scholarship? eg June?

Im looking myself for a masters and phd programme combinded. Im reading everything i can. From what i can discover from so far, as i emailed surrey uni department for social science....they said that vacancies get advertised and you apply when they come out in the new year. Others contacts have suggested think about your topic, search through uni's staff profiles looking for potential supervisors, email them. 1. if you like them apply to that uni and hopefully get funding from the open programme or when they and if they offer a studentship there. 2. you apply to that one and pay yourself.

What subject are you looking at? Im looking into a criminology/sociology area one.

Hi everyone, id really be grateful for any help here.

I want to try and get a 1+3 studentship ERSC i think it is to do my Masters/PHD in criminology starting next September or the year after (sep 2012). I'm looking around but cant seem to find them advertised by any uni. I'm hoping to apply for one at Middlesex, open uni or roehampton/kingston.

Does anyone know if im doing the process right here, do i just wait until they get advertised? Could i be in for a long wait or am i looking in the wrong place?

Ive looked so far on guardian jobs, the uni websites and **edited by mods**
