but a collegue of mine has just wrote to me saying, i do not need to rewrite the whole paper and she's going to call me tonight.
checked the copyright form i signed for the paper. could not find any thing specifiying a thesis. but it did say:
"the right to republish without charge, in print format, all or part of the material from the published Contribution in a book written by the Contributor"
thanks again everyone!
Thanks everyone for their help!!
Yep, sounds like a plan, I will ask my supervisor and see what he says, as he knows best. The thing is the WHOLE point of me writing the paper FIRST was to help me with my thesis chapter! and to have a skeleton of the chapter, and then to just add to it. obviously it wont just be a complete copy paste job, because the paper is only about 5000 words, and i am aiming to have the chapter be about 10,000 words. and i think its ridiculous to cite myself in my own thesis. as someone said, it's like split personality. the findings in the paper, IS my phd. i've just published it. which my supervisor told me, may help me to pass my phd.
i wanted to write my thesis but my supervisor told me to write the paper first. and get it published.
today:
hours worked: 4 and half hours.
random procrasinating things i did: read up on how to write a literature review. and how to correctly reference. emailed my supervisor telling him of my deadlines. emailed my graduate tutor, updating him of my thesis plans.
words written (zero draft of introduction chapter section 3) "notes only" from papers = 827 words (most of it will be junk! and are just notes from papers)..
hand written pages of ideas, random thoughts, (and free writing) = 4 and half pages
ideas = 2
articles read = 7
i'm sleepy, so going to bed now.
Well thanks Jojo for your brilliant idea about writing a "writing diary". It's really motivated me!!
Usually I would just procrastinate, or past couple of days have been suffering from panic attacks and couldn't concentrate, but now knowing that by midnight I would have to log on here and update what I've done all day, really motivated me and got me working and concentrating!
Apolagies for people who will find it boring to read... But like someone said on Jojo's thread, you don't have to read it
And it's not wasting time writing in my diary, as it only takes 5 minute, and I will do it at the end of my working day, whilst I backup the work i have done for the day (yeh, i've started doing daily backups, because I'm scared of losing my work). Then weekly backups onto dvds. But more importantly, it's actually motivating me to work hard during the day, knowing I have to report what i've done.

Thanks!! I agree!! sounds like a plan, and is making me feel less stressed now
great, that's what i will do and then show my supervisor and ask him what he thinks. i've asked him about it. but in the past my other supervisor has told me i can copy paste it, but just slightly change it.
Thanks Shani!
you know what, usually i am really bad and i procrastinate but today, i have been good at the concentration, i think it's because of all you guys! and because of the diary i've started, i feel like by midnight or (2am) i need to have done work, so i can say what i've done in my diary lol.
usually around 7pm, i will have my dinner, and then watch a few episodes of greys anatomy as a reward for a days work. but today, i was watching it, but thinking about going back to my computer! that's never happened to me before!!
this forum, is like having a daily monitor lol
i recommend everyone start their diary writing as Jojo suggested, it really does help!
i once read that
"one day plus another has an accumulative effect"
and "whereever you are, it is the place to start. the effort to expend today does make a difference".
well, my 5 minute break is over. signing off, and getting back to work. aiming to work till midnight/2am.
bye
Thanks everyone for their advice and input!
So basically, it's better to just rewrite my paper when i turn it into a thesis chapter.
But I don't need to actually cite myself in my thesis, unless i use a direct quote.
yeh i think its just safer i re-write it.
otherwise the chapter will be riddled with my surname in brackets which will look silly lol
Thanks makes sense !
one last message, but i wanted to say thank you for the encouragement that it's possible to do it within the time frame. that's what i really needed to hear, because i kept having panic attacks and was feeling very depressed, but now i feel motivated and ready to go.
i will now write full time and not be distracted.
okay signing off now, and will sign back on at midnight after a full days worth of writing.
bye
erm, yah it's very ambitious, but i have no choice, if i don't submit by sept 1st, they wont let me submit at all, and i will fail.
erm yah haven't taken into account of radical restructuring. i am hoping by 7th of july when i have my first draft written, that my supervisor will tell me then, if i need to structure it differently..
i'm going to give it my best shot and see what happens.
