Hi Timefortea, I used NVivo for my analysis, can highly recommend YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/QSRInternational
They offer step by step tutorials for most types of analysis on NVivo, hope that helps (up)

Good morning all,
I'm feeling a lot better this morning so hopefully I can get a lot more done than I did yesterday - I was still feeling unwell really yesterday so I gave up after a few hours! Hope your dizziness has passed Benyaya and the feedback wasn't too bad Skig!
I'm just going to get on with some amendments to my chapter, on closer inspection they're all fairly tricky ones actually that require quite a lot of brain power, I think the key to cracking them is to just get started on one. Once I have one done, the others should be less dauting. That's my logic anyway, don't know if that will turn out to be flawed!
Hope you all have a good day :-)
*edited due to my fuzzy brain*
Hi all,
Hope you are all getting on well and you had productive days. I've been a bit poorly since Friday, problems with my sinuses again, boo. I'm just easing myself back into it today but I still have the headache from hell which doesn't make concentrating on a thesis very easy!
Today I'd like to make a start on the corrections my supervisors gave me last week, they aren't too onerous so I think I should be able to get a few of them done today, though I'm not going to be too hard on myself as my brain is like (sprout) !!!
Have a good day everyone (up)
Their loss Batfink, good to see you back! How exciting that you're off to Helsinki! Hope you have a great time (up)
That's good news Natassia, you can relax now! I've now finished all of my goals for today thankfully so I'm going to have a little bit of a longer break now as I literally only stopped for 20 mins to have lunch earlier and then use this afternoon to do some more reading.
Hope you have a great weekend, catch up with you next week!
Goal 2 completed, now for some lunch! (turkey)
Thanks for your reply Ian, I'm going to see how it goes and go from there. But grr, I believe that it is an issue that should be left where it belongs, back in the dark days pre equality!
You'll be fine Natassia, you're doing what is best for you and for the PhD so don't worry! Good luck with it anyway!
I've achieved Goal 1, so I'm now working on Goal 2 which I want to get finished before lunch. I too am dreading the email I have to write with the notes but I'm determined that I'm just going to get on with my PhD and get it finished, by hook or by crook!
Hope everyone's having a good day!
hi Johnny,
Yes I've done it, it hasn't affected my ability to purchase items or get credit. It might depend on who you're asking but I don't see it being a problem.
Good morning all,
Welcome back Benyaya, hope you get on well with your goals. I have a number of things on my to-do list but today I'm going to focus on the following:
1. Finish making initial amendments to Chapter 2
2. Type up minutes from yesterday's meeting (should be interesting)
3. Work on a talk I am giving on Monday
That's quite enough I think, one goal at a time!
Hope you all have a good day!
Thank you all for your replies, I was curious as to what my fellow PhDers made of this! Will address appropriately, thanks for your input :-)
Hi Natassia,
I think if you can do it, financially, logistically and mentally then go for it! I'm faced with a similar dilemma myself as I approach the end of my third year, and I do wish I'd changed my registration to part time last year as I'm not going to be ready to submit this year now. I think it's a great idea (up)
Hi all,
Hope you are all well, I just have a question about discrimination in the workplace. I have a 10 year old stepson for whom we have joint custody, but we only see him every other weekend and for about half of the school holidays. My husband is a great Dad and takes time off to look after his child, but I do the odd day of cover. However, where I cover in the day I make up for it by working extra in the evening or at the weekend.
Today, one of my supervisors expressed concern about me completing on time because I "care for a relatively small child". I was a bit taken aback by this as I have NEVER missed a deadline or a meeting or anything and certainly have never used childcare as an excuse! I spend relatively little time caring for my step son alone, and he lives with his mum during the week so it's not as if I do the school run or anything, which I have made clear on several occassions.
Is my supervisor allowed to say things like this? He has made a similar query in the past, when he found out I was engaged to a man with a child, about how I was going to manage with the care of a child as well as my PhD. It's not said in a caring/concerned way, more a, how on earth could you possibly manage to work when you have a child in your life? Isn't this a 1950s statement that shouldn't be allowed in a modern workplace?
I'm pretty sure this is discrimination and I could make a complaint, but am I right?
I'd be grateful for your input on this one (up)
Hi all, I've been out at a meeting this morning and only just got back so thought I'd check in with you all! I've used subheadings in my literature review Natassia, for the same reason as Skig, to focus the discussion or signpost.
I'm not going to be doing much in the way of writing this afternoon so I'm going to use it to catch up on some reading which I haven't had a chance to do for ages. Hope everyone is ok and having a good day (up)
I can get you Gard and Freeman, on its way now, afraid I only have limited access to the other two.
