PhD Viva.... Not sure whether I am supposed to prepare slides.
M

You should be told if it is required. I had to give a brief presentation at the start of my viva. I had 5 slides and very quickly went through project background, novelty, key objectives and key outcomes. It was really just a quick few minutes to set the scene before them starting to tear apart my thesis.

Engineering: PhD vs Jobs

My advice would be that unless you are ABSOLUTELY certain that you want to do a PhD, don't do it.
I would be in a better position now if I had taken a graduate position at the end of my MEng instead of doing a PhD programme. Also, it will be awful unless you have a good supervisor that is actually going to spend the time here and there to make sure you are on the right track. A PhD generally isn't given weight (at least from my experience in the UK) in engineering industry, so if you don't want an academic career, then I would say to go for the graduate position.

But that's just my opinion. :-p

How long did you wait from submission to viva?
M

I had to wait 5 months to sit my viva.
It didn't help that the department conveniently forgot to process the paperwork to arrange the examiners.

Waiting for minor corrections to be approved.

Hi all - first time posting.

I passed my viva with minor corrections a few months ago. I completed these changes in about 3 weeks and submitted them to my internal examiner for approval. My question is - how long should it take for my internal to approve the changes? They have not done anything about it so far despite me asking for an update and also my supervisor asking for it be done as well. They have had the updated thesis for quite a while now.
