Redoing Literature Review again and again
P

(Cont) write until your third year, because you will probably re-write most of it again anyway. So long as what you write is moving you forward toward the end you'll get there.

Redoing Literature Review again and again
P

Hi, I do EXACTLY the same thing - I feel like I've written my first chapter about 3 times. The key is that it is getting better and the research is moving on. Also, remember not to be too attached to anything you (cont..)

advantages of self funding?
P

There are few positives to self-funding. I'd have thought that the direction and methods of the research is driven by the research, not the funding situation.

In a complicated affair with supervisor
P

I don't see how this can continue at all - you're his student. I think you need to find a new supervisor and see what happens then?

How to tell your supervisor you are depressed and it is impacting on your work?
P

Would it not be possible for you to speak to your supervisor face to face? Either way I think you would need to tell him soon if it is affecting your work. The Email seems OK to me.

Publishers on criminal law/forensic psychiatry
P

Oxford University Press always stand out for me in criminal law, not sure about forensics.

Removing a committee member from graduate committee
P

Your first port of call should be to discuss it with your supervisor - he / she would be the one who would then have to organise a new member, so you can't just avoid it.

Maximising productivity
P

I find that the best thing to do is to forget about the idea you can only work an hour at a time before needing a break. Instead I do 3 hour stints before having a short break. And before I know it I've done 6 hours solid.

PhD Research Help - Calling all PhD students
P

Done - just as some feedback (If you want it) - I found the questions for the 'you can change your ability' page to be all basically the same? It was interesting though.

Finding the right University, supervisor or funding - which is key?
P

You can't divide it like that: You need to find the right Uni (for you) and the right supervisor (for you) with the right funding arrangements (for you).

Do I need to have an ontological and epistemological position for my study?
P

Yes you do - I can recommend Mark Easterby-Smith, R Thorpe and P Jackson, Management Research, Sage 2012. It's good even for non-management research (like me).

Best paid jobs while finishing the thesis?
P

Have you spoken to your University to see if they can give you some lecturing or anything? They shouldn't really cut you off once the funding runs out.

Mistakes and self confidence
P

I think making these errors is all part of the research process - we all know of the stories of 'accidents' producing great things! If your supervisors are happy, you are doing well. Also look up 'imposter syndrome'.

PhD Fail viva Appeal
P

Well done in passing your PhD in the end, sounds like a nightmare - never give up!

How long to spend on preparing for Viva?
P

However long you need to be able to defend it.
