I hope your presentation goes well this morning Batfink :)
oh no :( so sorry to hear that, and we were all so impressed at how quickly they were going to do your viva. However, since it's unspecified, it could be for personal reasons, such as bebravement in the family or something similar that would make it very hard for the examiner to read your thesis in detail within the time given.
I know it's super frustrating and if it was me, I'd be doing a bit more than venting on here but I am sure there was a very good reason for this (I wouldn't think they would make such a decision lightly) and they have been professional enough to say that they can't do a good job in the time frame.

I can't advise on what you should do (since it is beyond my expertise) but I just wanted to say that it is possible (though whether it is advisable is questionable) to submit a thesis without the supervisor's support. someone I know did this, not because they didn't agree with the sup but they just simply ran out of time so they had to submit. I would check your institution's guideline on this, as Ady says, it probably differ from institution to institution.
So it's possible, but I would personally want to know that my sup was happy with what I submit.
I may have been a bit of an optimist this morning, have only done 500 words so far..... :(
ah yes, I didn't say 2000 *good* words, just 2000 words!!
Right, today's goal is write 2000 words for my methodology chapter.
hope everyone is having a productive and sunny day!
oh my, you guys have made me feel MUCH better!! I was laughing so hard!
I have so much respect for you guys, how do you do it with THAT much distractions?
Sneaks - yes I do remember your 1 page thingy and how much stress you had with it! I think you should send her the first version back!
I honestly don't know how people get thesis written with jobs, kids, etc, so I admire every one of you! I've had to be really selfish in order to write up, no job, no kids, not many friends. I just can't write if I have other things to deal with. Thankfully, most people understand this, but I just have one that keeps demanding my time. I'm struggling to figure out how to deal with this without offending the person. You know the situation, where the person isn't trying to make your life difficult but they do make it difficult for you.
Are we selfish to be wanting to write a thesis? Does anyone ever ask themselve this?
ha ha ha no, I'm just asking what MY sup would ask too!! lol
;-)
okay, I have a question...
if you were telling this topic to someone that has never read anything about it before (or just a teeny bit of general understanding of the area), say, someone like me, what would be the first thing you want me to understand?
I hope I'm not on my own working on a sunday!
I've written 1000 words this afternoon, which feels great after a week of slump, decorating and trying to deal with a 'friend' that doesn't understand it's just not okay to be ringing someone trying to write up a thesis four, five times a day (how do you deal with that??)
I'm going to pop out for a spot of shopping, then back to writing. I would like to write 1000 more words today.
wooo yes, how did the date go?
I think that's a great idea! Have you considered putting the timeline at the start of the review rather than the end? I say this only because I *personally* (meaning you don't have to agree with me!) feel that a graphic timeline will give me the general view of the topic covered, then I can read the details in your writing. (does that make sense? I'm sorry, I've been writing all day and my brain has turned to mush!)
