I have completed the application to transfer from mphil to phd but i want to now complete the phd at another university, is it possible?

Have you contacted a prospective supervisor at the university you want to transfer? you would want to be quite sure that there is a supervisor that can accomodate you at this new univeristy before you start making noises about transfering and also that the department will have no problem approving your application

Holiday,

my advice is do whatever makes you happy. You have your own funding and have passed your transfer exam, in which case you have demonstrated satisfactory progress toward completing your PhD, so your chances sound quite good.

I would recommend discussing this with someone in the department: like a tutor or graduate advisor, then approach your supervisors.

they should be able to offer impartial advice and help you explore all your options, not just the transfer option. You may be able to reconcile your differences with your supervisors. if you can't do this, the department should be able to provide a reference supporting your application to the university you want to go to.

the best way to apporach PhDs in the UK is to find individual projects you are interested in, contact the prospective supervisor stating your interest and providing a detailed CV. they should be able to advise on funding.

As you are non EU. i would imagine you wont get all your fees covered so you are probably going to have to source funding privately
as well.

I would accept that communication resourses in many countries are not as readily available as in the UK but in many cases this is not a good excuse for asking people to find the answers for them.

This is exactly the the kind of thread which started a three day war against the west by the user known as giri because I made the point, that some people come on to this site expecting the answers to fall into their laps and I do think this is just plain laziness.

like golfpro pointed out, it takes very little time at all to find out the information you need, but it's important to be a little bit more specific and clear.

people are more than happy to point you in the right direction but dont expect people to find funding for you!!!

if your interested in pediatrics then the following site may be a good website to start with( and I found this without knowing anything about medicine ).

As I understand it, Great Ormand Street is one of the best pediatric hospitals in the world. My sister had life saving surgery there as a baby

Jouri,
I still fail to see the connection between colonial arrogance and criticising giri's bad english? I don’t think you have much of a sound argument there.

I am from a former British colony so maybe I am guilty of colonist arrogance rather than colonial arrogance

it just seems to be the case that any legitimate argument made against giri is derogatory to her, according to you

you may be right coastman,
Most people I know in academia publish during their PhD. As a rule of thumb I would say most people publish at least 1-2 conference papers and a journal article during their PhD or shortly after.

There is generally a lot of pressure to publish. The funding bodies invest millions of pounds of tax payers money into academic institutions. They need to ensure that they are getting value for money. The best way of doing this is by assessing the publication output of academic institutions in terms of both volume and impact of papers published

giri,
If the UK system is so bad and you know the state of science in the UK then how come you didnt get your PhD ( if its soooo easy ).

people on this forum are very knowledgable and more than willing to listen and offer advice, but not to you because of the incorrect and offensive remarks you make about the UK education system.

if you are an intelligent person you should be able to make a reasoned, coherent argument to back up your statements but i havent seen evidence of this yet.

do yourself a favour and leave this forum all together.

girigoriya

which university where you at? im not exactly sure that you understand how PhD education works in the UK.

As far as im aware, you cannot be registered for a PhD unless you pass some kind of Mphil transfer exam and as ive been told by a number of academics when your finally registered as a Phd student, you are effectively untouchable at least until PhD VIVA

so on the assumtion you passed this and were resistered resister as a PhD then you cant be just kicked out. so im assuming you didnt pass such an exam hence why you are no longer on the PhD program. its no shame as this happens to lots of people.
