hi anz07, I am so sorry that you're going through this, I really hope you pull through. But you have passed, right, passed with major corrections? I can understand the frustration of getting different feedback, you need to take a step back and go easy on yourself, don't allow yourself to feel humiliated, since you have done what was asked of you (writing service etc.), and you still have time before submitting again, go over your work, and see what feels right, and what can be made better, or leave it as it is, whatever you feel is right, and then re-submit.
I have been through humiliation, like everyone else -- but remember what you feel is only emotions, actually "it" can't hurt you, it can only hurt you if you allow it to.

hi, same reaction with Eds! the most pressing question for me (at first thought) would be why the phd cannot be done part-time. It is sooooo difficult to land a job. There are many advertisements, no doubt about that, but it may be only ONE position for something more than one person can do. It has been depressing, job-wise for me, I can only hope it gets better.
good luck

hi everyone
I'm thinking of writing a short communication, but I have seen some samples -- and some of them are really NOT short at all, one of them was more than 15 pages!
Anyway, if I only want to talk about one part of the results, should I still say what was done for the WHOLE study? I still can't get my head around this, it's almost noon now-- and my mind is still at a blank.
Any advice?
thanks

hi, welcome to the Forum. OK I do my best to help --
1. yes it is possible to have more than one supervisor for our PHD, usually the PI is the one who is your main supervisor - and he is usually the one who has applied for the grant (which supports the project)
2. If I were you, I would go and look at all the scholarship websites, and look for those covering my area, see their eligibility criteria, you post this question here, it is hard for people to help you, you need to look by yourself
3. don't really understand this question -- if I am not mistaken, it's like this -- you have a research idea (or you may NOT have an idea), you either look for a scholarship offering that project OR you write to a professor and talk about what you want to do etc., then discuss, then apply, then get interview, then PASS the interview, get offer letter, then your research plan is worked on IN FULL, and you start your phd -- register at uni etc.
4. its not a bad thing, you just need to highlight what are the DIFFERENCES in your research, what more do you bring to the field, what else can you show - even though this work has been done before by his phd student.
hope this helps, and have a nice day

hi jollybrielle, welcome to the Forum.
From what I have read -
1. you would like to live with your bf
2. your career choice is university and research
3. you don't want to be stuck in the post-doc cycle
First of all, congratulations on having 5 papers published --and more in submission stage!!! Well done!!
yes it may be very difficult to land a job, but you certainly have good chances of getting employed -- ever hear the mantra -- publish or perish? :-)
You will have another hurdle-- which is the VISA obstacle. So again it does depend on whether your employer will sponsor you or not.
Ask yourself what is more important to you -- your career, or your life? If it is your career, be prepared for having to live a distance away from your bf etc. If you choose life, and he chooses life, then reach a compromise of what to do. For example, if he gets a job first, then you move and stay with him, and when you get a job, both of you compromise again, and work together on it.
My husband (previously bf) supported me when I was writing up my phd, I did not have a job for over two years. He doesn't have a phd so at that time, he couldn't really understand what I was going through. After some time, I managed to get a job and that is only temporary, and soon my contract will end.
Now I am also re-thinking my life -- is family more important to me now, because staying with my husband means there is NO job opportunity in university/research etc. ZERO opportunity, and getting a job means I must move away.
I have reached the point at which I can now make a decision, and I will still be happy regardless of whether I get a job in future or not. I choose family.
Good luck

hi everyone,
about qualitative quotes == are we allowed to edit them?
for example in my transcript --
"...as a chef to see such an authentic dish,"
is it ok for me to put in
""...as a chef seeing such an authentic dish,"
so I have made grammatical editions, is this allowed?
thanks

thanks everyone! the thing with me is forgetting which reference fits what. It took me almost the whole morning to search for one particular reference, I think it is also because I am not familiar with the field of which I am writing, that seems to make it worse.
Do you read/glance through every paper cited? There are some papers I cannot access, so in honesty I haven't gone past the abstract
thanks again

hi everyone,
Just wanted to ask your opinions on this --
I am working on a paper, and I was wondering if citations should be added in IMMEDIATELY after writing sentences, OR is it more time-effective if I just continue writing, and only look for the references to cite after I have finished? For example if I have finished 4 paragraphs, then I go and look for references, or should I cite them as I write each sentence?
Any tips on how I can work faster?
thanks

hi phdiddy, well done on being offered a chance to do your PhD -- and also for your very good bachelors thesis! What a fantastic opportunity!
I am sorry that your gf cheated on you, it is best that you know about it, so you can process it and move on with your life.
I can see how you wanted to continue with the phd, and just get on with it.
The truth is everyone needs a break, even holidays can be difficult for some of us -- why because we simply can't switch off (I am one of them!), I would really recommend that you take up your research prof's offer, say to him, yes thank you I do need a short break.
Go away from the phd, recover and rejuvenate yourself, come back refreshed and ready to go again.
As for the gf, as painful as it is, believe me, things will get better and you WILL get over this experience.
