Drink through a straw!
Always always always eat breakfast! It sets you up for the rest of the day and you are less likely to snack. I have wholegrain cereal with semi-skimmed milk and a glass of juice. Wholegrain toast is good, fruit, yogurt, muesli, porridge...anything with whole grains keep you going for longer. Just make a few healthier food choices and try and get loads of fruit and veg in. But allow yourself some treats too, one a day stops you craving them!
I also try to incorporate some exercise into my routine- I walk to work instead of getting the tube. Am still trying to find time to do some proper exercise!

I file all my papers/articles as paper copies in a filing cabinate. They are filed in date order and then each year is filed alphabetically using the first three letters of the first author. I look up specific papers using ref manager and can then find them in the cabinate. My notes for my lit review are also on paper, which are kept thematically in boxfiles. Then I keep a journal for day-to-day notes, to do lists and random thoughts! I like to be organised!
Bought Theme Park for the DS over the weekend, its very good! Kept me busy all weekend. Have also ordered Sim City as well, but it's not going to arrive for a while! I love my DS...
I used to do exam revision in the silent area of the library and once had a girl have a go at me because I was typing on my calculator to loudly! I put it down to exam stress on her behalf!
Olivia- get yourself an iPod. I know that everyone has one but they are sooo good and definitley worth the £100. You can put all your CD's on it and then just hit shuffle!
I'm glad you got it sorted, I always like to help people with their stats. I am at a London Uni, before that I was at Plymouth. Just started the first year of my PhD in September.
Sorry, I don't think that i have made the form of the data clear. The first column needs to contain all of your stress levels. The second column (campus) need to indicate which university the student is from i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. The stress levels need to be the raw stress level for each student and not an average.
Your data needs to be in this form:
Stress Levels Campus
1 1
2 1
1 2
2 2
. .
. .
So the 'Campus' variable needs to be numeric with 1 indicating the first uni, 2 the second and so on. The 'test variable' is stress level column and the 'group variable' is your 'campus' variable.
You then need to click on the 'define range' button and enter numbers 1 and 5 (because you have 5 universities in your campus variable). Make sure the test type is set to Kruskal-Wallis H and press OK and you should be ok.

Gives a step by step guide to doing this in SPSS with examples ans screenshots.
OK, so a Kruskal-Wallis Test looks to see if there are any differences in medians stress level between the groups, i.e. universities. The median is just an average like the mean.
A really great paper on the Kruskal-Wallis test is:
Benwick,V, Cheek,L & Ball,J (2004) Statistics Review 10: Further Non-Parametric methods. Critical Care. Vol 8, No.3 pg 196-199.
The stress levels are your dependent variable and you want to put universities as a factor. The liscence to my version of SPSS has expired so I can't look to see what options there are for a K-W test. Is this any help?
Ok i'm not going to lie I love shoes and have far to many but am seeking help for my addiction and my terrible bank balance that comes with it! But a girl can never have too many shoes...(or boots in my case!)
When I told my mum over the phone the title of my PhD, she got me to spell it to her because she couldn't understand what I was saying. Even now her eyes glaze over when I start to talk about. My dad, bless him, tries really hard to understand what I'm doing! It's cool telling people about your PhD- they have no idea what you are talking about and don't really care after you have rambled on about it for long enough!
