The general rule for science PhDs (the thing that everyone seems to aim for) is introduction, methods, 3 results chapters, and discussion. That makes 6.

Apologies for my ignorance, but how do science PhDs demonstrate their knowledge of the field of study? Is there no lit review element?

The introduction is your Lit review in Science PhDs.

That not always true - my Department tends to promote a seperate literature review that is quite targeted and specific, once the subject has been introduced in the introduction.

Look quite deeply into who accredites your online MBA, and make sure you feel comfortable that it is legitimate.

How to start out well with Supervisor ?
T

I think finding the balance between assertive and respectful is tough for a lot of people, especially those coming straight from undergraduate, as it is the first time you are potentially surrounding by your peers and colleagues.

If they are a good supervisor, they will know the answer to all your questions and will guide you through the first few months. A timetable is a good idea, but remember at this early stage especially things will change a lot.

Are you funded? Funding bodies may not allow a drastic change in topic...

Money from AHRC like blood from a stone

It sounds like you've been talking to your University, but have you phoned AHRC? NERC has advisors (one does Universities from A-M, another guy N-Z or something). At the very least it would make them aware of it, and things might move a bit quicker. If you tell them that you have no funds coming in, and you have to pay a flat deposit or something then they really should move a lot quicker you'd hope. Good luck!

Was promised teaching but nothing has materialized!

Yep, mention it again. The course might have changed, another lecturer might have decided to do it instead, or there might not be enough in the teaching budget...

@ Coastman, I think the RAE only expects entry-level lecturers to have 2 publications per year, so having newer staff doesn't have a negative effect on the actual rating as it's weighted to allow for that (well, that's what I've always thought anyway...).

On one hand that sounds great, on the other hand that sounds like I've got to find two publications from somewhere :$
