Finally starting to be productive again. A little behind my planned schedule but on course for a full draft of the thesis by the end of the month. Have a big weekend of work ahead but feeling good about what I'm writing and editing. Will update again soon - more for my own accountability than anything! :)

Wow well done litphdgirl! That's fantastic! Not long for you now :)

Well done, litphdgirl! And thanks, tuutikki - definitely hoping that second wind arrives soon :)

Well done! :-)

I've also got full draft due in 3 weeks time, I really need to make a move on.

Oh my goodness Hugh I had no idea it was that soon! I made a timetable that corresponds with an October draft but I am hoping to get it in sometime in September- I need to take a leaf out of your book it seems!

My urgency is because I'm expecting some major changes after 1st draft, so I need time to make those! I'm also hoping if I get any of the jobs I've applied for, the thesis won't be a hindrance. Well I hope it won't be.

Managed to write 4k this weekend which I'm happy about. This chapter I'm on has been completely planned out so I'm finding it much easier to write than previous ones. Also racing through things as it's a shorter chapter too. I'm going to get up early and hopefully write another thousand before work tomorrow and then hopefully about 2k tomorrow evening. After that, edit and tweak on Tuesday before sending off. Going camping Wednesday - Friday as a well deserved break and then back to my final chapter which I hope to turn around by the 31st. Pressure is definitely on but I don't feel too overwhelmed. Just important I get the full draft out of my system, then I have two months to work on refining it.

Hope everyone else had a productive and happy weekend :)

Well done litphdgirl :) You have been super productive!

I am just finishing the proof reading of my literature review chapter today, then I will move on to editing the next chapter. After the next chapter, I am hoping it will move along much more quickly; the first three chapters of my thesis were the ones I was dreading editing as they needed lots of updating, but by the end of next week I will have hopefully completed the 'dreaded' chapters and be working on those that do not need as much tweaking :)

Well done to you both litphdgirl and Zutterfly - you are both making excellent progress!

I am formatting today, and it takes much longer than I had anticipated.

I am placing Chapter 1 | Page number at the bottom of each page (this helped: http://phdtalk.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/inserting-chapter-title-to-header-in.html)

Does anyone know what you would call the section before Chapter 1 starts?

Can you clarify 'the section before chapter 1' Hugh? The thesis' I have seen completed in my department tend to go: Acknowledgements, abstract, contents then it launches into chapter 1 which is the introduction.

As you described, that's the section I am talking about. I wonder if there was one name for it? (Like a Preface or something). Maybe there isn't a name ... I have left it blank for now, because atm I have got that section numbered with roman numerals and chapter 1 (the intro) starts with page 1.

Is it for the contents list, Hugh? I think I would just list each of these things separately under Abstract and so on.

I'm not explaining this very well at all. Sorry. It's not for the contents list, its for the footer, where I am placing Chapter number and page number. I'm just making life complicated!

C

Ah, I see! I haven't heard of any name for that section of the thesis, sorry. Maybe just the roman numerals would do, since it's mostly short, standalone things of one or two pages?

Yes I think it'll be fine like that :) thanks!

Great idea chickpea. Roman numerals would work. It's so simple if you think about it and can't believe I overlooked using them. Thanks.
