Any tips?

I'm just preparing a five minute presentation on my research proposal for a PhD interview. The project concept was already developed by the supervisor so I'm just really rewriting the key points on slides... Is there any extra information I should be including that isn't just rationale, aims. objectives and methods?

This for a competition funded studentship at leeds in molecular genetics :)

If anyone could link to some good examples of research proposal presentations that would be good

I have just seen a project I want to apply for. However, the deadline is the 27th so will only be advertised for 7 days and the project is due to start on the 1st June 2015.

Considering this is a top london university, and an extremely competitive/popular area of research, is it possible they already have a candidate in mind? This project was also advertised last year so I'm not sure why it has come up again.

I have had a spate of rejections and don't want to apply to projects that I don't have a hope of getting! Especially as I feel my referees are getting tired of uploading so many references for me.......

I am so unbelievably keen to hear back from them- although we were told only those who were shortlisted would hear back. So I don't know at what point in time to stop hoping! I could not have come up with a more perfect phd project for myself....

Has anyone been offered an interview?

Your best bet is to directly email universities directly

Be prepared to explain a. why you got a third, b. why you have the potential to succeed on their course

I do know a chap who did an accountancy training after getting a third in pharmacology- the key was he didn't get funding so his parents had to subsidise everything.

Thanks Aisling, that was really helpful! I think going to the guidelines I would be classified as disabled. It was also useful to note 'a tendency to set fires' does not class you as disabled... On the form I would put disability- long term health condition as they do not provide options for what is eligible.

It is not with a university, rather a company, I may try ringing up their admin service to just confirm this!

Ticking the disabled box effectively guarantees me an interview so I want to make sure I am not inadvertently abusing the system

I need some advice- I am applying to an PhD programme for which the company is a 'two ticks' employer. This effectively means that they must interview any candidates who meet the minimum requirements.

I have a long term health condition for which I was registered as 'disabled' at my undergrad uni but did not transfer this to postgrad (my course leader was aware and helpful with giving me extensions for assignments without me actually registering a disability with the university). I graduated a year ago and have been self employed since then so it has not been an issue.

I have made a couple of previous PhD applications before but they did not have the standardised form (and I was going to put my medical history into my cover letter!) so have not come across this problem before- if I had been hired by the university I would have registered this after they had made me an offer.

I am just worried that if I did put myself down as disabled, and was offered the PhD, the offer may be revoked as I am not disabled in the classical sense. As clearly this system must get abused quite heavily!

The application is due this week so annoyingly I cannot go to my GP to ask about this in time...

I have a phd interview next week which would be my ideal project. It's my first interview so very keen to avoid any silly mistakes!

The project is looking at whether poor management of a common disease in childhood is linked to complications in adulthood and how this can be prevented. I'm from molecular bio background so know a lot about the basis of the disease, but little about working with clinical populations and epidemiology.

So I am wondering, 1.How would I go about recruiting patients/seeking ethical approval? 2. What statistical methods could potentially be used for this sort of data? Any other comments or opinions would be highly appreciated, very little information about how the project would be undertaken was given in the proposal.
