Writing. Is it something you can learn?
Z

Hi Donzy,
Well, on first impression, I would say that it's your supervisors' feedback that is 'bad' rather than your writing style! It's demotivating to receive comments like that with no strategies for moving forward. I'd agree with all the suggestions that have been given already. I also like to look at an exemplar of the task I'm about to undertake to gauge the writing style expected and the structure. Your university should have copies of theses that you can have a look at. Perhaps even some by your supervisors' previous students? Good luck!

Good Morning! Working at home today so goal number one is to actually work at home! Specifically, I need to get my questionnaire sorted out; identify standardised tests or make up my own. Hope everyone has good day!

Morning! Have actually been on the computer for about an hour and have just been reading the papers and checking Facebook. Ahhh! So for what remains of the morning...i'd like to
1) find relevant articles and check for existing measures
2) PM - read and add to lit review as go along

Now that's the joy, as Sneaks pointed out, of fingerless gloves these days. They have a wee bit which turn them into cosy mittens. Fingerless when typing, cosy gloves when reading. Got mine from Asda for a fiver. Like the food tip as economical and probably healthier as well. I do have a dog and that is definitely a cosy measure but also great to get the blood pumping and escape from Phd for a while on lovely autumnal walks. Also she's curled up on my feet just now under the desk which is nice and warm although the squeaky ball is a little distracting :)

Any non-academic recommendations for other postgrads? I recommend fingerless gloves! They seem to have made a comeback and are in all the shops. Keeps your hands cosy but can still type away in garret :) Can't bring myself to put the heating on just yet (snowman)

Can't find the right phrase - help needed

I would keep it in but put it in inverted commas and define it in your terms; something like: "this exposure may allow them to step outside their cultural "comfort zone" i.e. the environment in which they feel familiar and secure".

Does anyone else read through lots of journals to try and clarify your ideas on topic and then become even more confused? :) I always do that and just when am at the point that think am never going to find focus, things start to become a bit clearer. So now that have bit of clarity am going to:
1) Identify clear definitions and available measures for concepts
2) Write about 2000 words
3) Not watch "This Morning"

PMT/PhD: they almost rhym!

I know what you mean Eska! I remember complaining to a friend about PMT and she said that she embraces it and tackles difficult work at this time and gets it done with a ferocious energy. I tried it and sort of works. Weird.

Morning! Am at my desk and going to do the following this morning:
Goal 1: Make notes to accompany powerpoint
Goal 2: Try it and time it
Goal 3: Lunch and walk dog
Afternoon:
Goal 4: Think about possible questions might be asked (and possible answers!)
Hope everyone is well and getting on ok with work! I've been totally sluggish lately but the fear is creeping in so might finally get some work done. Fingers crossed!
