I'd like to think I'm no. 8, but probably no. 3 lol 8-)

M

7 probably

S

Strangely, despite a very depressing teaching day yesterday, I'm feeling confident at the moment. I'm going 6 or 8.

Heh, I like to pretend I'm number 6 but there's definitely a large part of 2 about me!

C

None of them stand out as me, but I'd say 2 is the closest.

I'm proably closest to 6, but I don't want answers. I just want to be able to engage with my subject for the rest of my career, write about it at a high level and teach. I think some people might think I am an eternal student, but my experience of PhDing has zero in common with the undergrad experience - which I hated anyhow. I wish I were an 8!

M

Just reread the article - meant 6! not bothered about titles etc just want knowledge about how the world works...

F

I'm definitely a 2, but they should have added another sentence to say "and wants to strangle any student who tells them 'I hate my PhD, I want a job'" ;) I could be a bit of a 3- I'm not an eccentric but I wouldn't want to work anywhere but academia now.

I think my MSc supervisor would say I was a 6 as, in his words, I "f***ing love" my subject area. I wonder if he wrote that on my PhD reference ;)

Nicely put, eska. (up)
I like to think I'm a 6, although moving through several social sciences into humanities aligns me slightly with 8. This can definitely work against you, however. Finding your niche and mastering that alone is what helps make you the expert in the field; not being a promiscuous, unfaithful learner. :-x

think I would like to be 8 too, but am probably more likely to be 6, or 2 - although I often had to forgo lunchbreak at lunchtime because something was needed,, and therefore have lunch at about 3.30 :$

I guess I was a mixture of 6 and 2, though 1 has a certain appeal about it. :-)

S

I get the feeling I started as a 1, but teaching them (and being a subwarden) kinda puts you off undergraduates. I'm glad I'm not 18.

C

probably a 6/7 with elements of 3 also
