Dr Bond!!

C

After deading my viva, pretty much since I started my PhD, I'm pleased to annouce I passsed subject to minor typological corrections! :-) Still slightly in shock really as it definitely hasn't sunk in. Six months ago this day really didn't seem possible as I still had a LOAD to write and had to submit by the end of my fourth year.

Anyway the viva was no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be. My examiners were really possitive, and I didn't feel they were really grilling me. They asked why I'd done things and seemed to accept my answers. The time went very quickly, I looked at my watch and couldn't belive we'd been talking for an hour and a half! The whole thing lasted a bit over two hours and then both examiners said they'd reached the end of their questions and I was sent out the room. I suddenly realised how drained I was! After about 10 mins they called me back in, and were both smiling and saying congratulations! I was still thinking at this point, ok but what's the outcome!

Defintely nursing a hangover today!

Congratulations Dr Bond!!! I am so pleased your viva went well and minor typos is a fab result. It really does take a while to sink in, so enjoy the celebrations and I hope the hangovers are not too bad :p

I think I missed a trick with the thread title. It should have been " the name's bond, dr bond!"

Thanks for all the messages. Had a good weekend of celebration and ignoring the pile of marking I somehow have to do thus week.

Keenbean, yes I started a new job a couple of weeks ago. So far going well. Everything finally seems to be falling into place thankfully.

K

Brilliant, lots of good news :) Did you end up staying put for the job or have you moved uni? Hope you're enjoying it! Best, KB

New job is in London so I've currently got a 2 hour commute. Not great but my plan is to try and use the time productively (currently I read the metro and have a doze!). Might move to London in the summer, but I really want to try to work with my current supervisor again in two years time.

How's your new job going? I'm finding it strange being in a completely different environment. I always felt like post docs knew everything, so almost feel like a fraud! Sure I'll get used to it soon, esp with the PhD result.

K

That's great, well done! My post-doc is going well, although it has been a huge leap from the PhD! I think if I'd stayed put it would have been a much easier transition, but am so glad I moved because I am learning sooooo much more, and I love my new subject area too! It is very chaotic (I'm working on lots of different projects, rather than just focusing on one) and it's a jump in terms of responsibilities etc, but I think I'm getting into it reasonably well. Got a review next week so I'll see how that goes. Definitely aiming to stay on here after this post-doc, it's just finding the funding! Hope you enjoy your new job- I felt totally overwhelmed at first (and still do sometimes), but you'll settle in! Best, KB
