Student bursaries - does yours go up each year?

J

I had thought that each year, my bursary would go up a bit: most of the other students here get a "cost of living" increase every April. However, I've just found out that mine does not. Something to do with how they scale your salary.

Without being too nosey, what happens at other unis?

P

When I did mine, I was funded by the ESPRC...

I *think* it was...

Oct 2003 - £10,500
Oct 2004 - £11,000
Oct 2005 - £12,000

So mine did go up each year... I subsidised it by doing labs and practicals as well sa working for the disability office.

My friends who were funded internally by the Uni, however were on a totally different amount of money and theirs didn't go up at all during the 3 years.

S

Mine's internally funded but goes up at the same scale as the related funding body, so:

Year 1 - 12,300
Year 2 - 12,600

And I presume next year I'll be on 12,900.

S

I'm funded from a uni trust and it goes up some years. When I came back after 2 years out I found it had gone up - so that would be once in 5 years.

C

Nope, 12000 a year.

J

ESRC funded and yep, it goes up each year. Simply matches inflation.

Thanks everyone. Seems similar situation to here then: I'm research body funded but I'm on 12,000 a year for the 3 years. Boo!
