Viva date- still waiting?!

P

Hi all,

I submitted my PhD in early October and I'm still waiting for a viva date.......

I'm starting to worry! I hope lack of a viva date is not an indication of a poor thesis (ie deciding whether to pull my thesis before the viva)!

Hi Pineapple,

such an obvious question but have you asked for sup or, more likely to get a response, your Uni admin team if there's any news ?

isn't there something about no news being good news ;-) ... i think "all" you can do now is prepare as per previous posts on here.. reading, note taking, summarising etc. Lots of fab threads on this topic.

keep strong; and very well done for submitting. Chuff

I submitted on 8th Oct and although I knew the viva date quite soon (unofficially) I only heard officially by letter yesterday. From what I hear, you're relying on three people being organised - the department admin has to get the thesis off to the examiners, the internal has to make contact with the external, then the external has to agree on a date. I was lucky, but there are many academics I know who would fall at the first hurdle of remembering to email the external.

You should ask admin for info on any progress.

I wouldn't worry about thesis quality and viva date. This is a very busy time of year for academics. The logistics of sorting out a viva at the moment will be quite immense.

You should definitely consider chasing up the relevant people though, starting with your sup for advice.

But don't worry that it has anything to do with the quality of your thesis.

am in this same situation. worse still i do not know my examiners. :(

I found out about my viva date about 2 months after submission. So I went though all those worries too. I also asked my sup about it while I was waiting and he advised me to just wait. Some people I know waited for just over 3 months, so it does happen... Also like Bilbo says it's a busy time for academics.

Well done for submitting and try not to worry too much about this (although I know it's easier said than done). Good luck!
