Can you submit papers on your own?
A

Hi

Is there any reason why you can't start writing papers and submit them for publishing whilst you are studying for a second degree? Obviously I'll check with my Uni first but is there any *law* that says you can't i.e. from the publisher' s side? I want to get some of my idea out there for feedback but have another year before I finish.

Has anyone tried it alone?

Thanks

Anyone up?

Yes I'm up. Aspies just love studying and studying :-x

What did you want to be when you were little?
A

I wanted to design aircraft which could move either through space or water.  I designed and built my first helicopter when I was 5 out of an old Lancaster bomber air fix kit. Made an airport to go with including Terminal, hangars, control tower, runway, etc etc - all to scale.

Like most of my aspie friends I haven't achieved anything like my potential and probably never will now.

Good luck to everyone else in 2010.

Are MRES (New route PhD) compulsory

Thank you both (have marked you both as 'helpful users').

I agree research skills are necessary, it is just that if research skills are already covered in an MSc, doing them again just didn't seem justifiable.

Happy New Year to you.

Are MRES (New route PhD) compulsory

Hi again

I was wondering if people had any thoughts on the value of the Master's of Research degree which is part of the New Route PhD? It's hard for me to see them as anything more than another fee income opportunity for Universities.

I want to develop the skills needed to complete a PhD but surely that's something you pick up whilst doing the M.Phil part of a PhD?

I want to apply for the M.Phil/PhD route but I'm concerned that if you apply to the same University which you got your last qualification from, your academic referees will only recommend you for the New Route so you are pretty much committed to either accepting it or leaving.

Thank you Stressed.  I am getting closer to making the right decision to ask for support. Unfortunately we suffer from analysis paralysis big time  :-)

My other website does recommend I get support as well. I took some advice too literally - it's another thing we can't fathom out.

So much for genius 8-)

Thank you for taking the time to post Cleverclogs but most Aspies prefer hollandaise sauce rather than parsley on their salmon.

Hello KB and Emmaki

I'd really not say at what stage of my studies I am at as I think some of my lecturer' s come over here.

Your advice is totally opposite from our web site.  Ours is tell no one - ever. I think it is a bit one sided so thought I'd get a perspective from this side of the fence.

All I really want is my supervisor to know that changing my routine without consulting me and not being clear in what she is asking for in written work is causing me major problems.

Thank you both for your replies and may try sending off an anonymous email to someone and see what comes back.

On the off chance I'm not the only one here......

Does anyone else have Aspergers and trying to negotiate Uni modules without telling anyone?

I'm not doing well at all and between my perfectionism, strive set on max full time and lack of clarity from "them" (a.k.a. lecturers) I'm sinking fast.

Anyone else in the same situation who can offer some advice?
