Thank you HazyJane, maybe I should open discussion now here-

I am in Australia and scholarship holder, spent 13 months of my candidature in a different field and now supervisor asked to change lab because they don't have potential project and they suggest to go back to the same field. I am in a big trouble and thinking to go to something where I have at least some experience.

This is my story!

Supervisor asked to change lab...unsure of things

Hi All, i am in big dilema. I spent a year in my candidature in Australia.
I changed my field with this project, i was overwhelmed with the oppoortunity, supervisor's status, lab, and the bigger picture they put about the project.
They assesed my skills, and told to change the project initially itself, but considering the project potenital, opportunities and skills in this project. I thought if i stay for few months, I would definitely gain these skills and my supervisor would be happy withme and teach me further things.

But, time to time, I figured out that my relationship with supervisor is not getting stronger than weaker.

With consistent positive, negative feedeback, when i reach to confirmation milestone, thye spilled everything on me saying, they dun think i am progressing well and I should consider changing the lab.

There are several options that they could have offered me-
1.change of project by encouraging me to write a research proposal.
2. Transperant feedback, on where I am lagging and what i can do to improve (at least when I am asking specific feedback)
3. The consistent answer i received from them was, they dont know how to guide me, they are busy people, and they already had told me. That made me go crazy, negative, that i dont like my research topic any more.

Good thing is, they havent done anything wrong with my candidature and still offered me to change lab.(not sure if I am suppose to take this positively or its something else).

As an international student, its a bit tricky when one go through all the process and have so much of inspirations, but after joining lab have to face so much of stuff.

Now, again I don't know should I go back to my field or continue in the same field?
I feel like helpless about how to narrow down searches?

Can anyone suggest about how should I search for new lab?

Has anyone had similiar experience?
