New York University vs Boston University (for Electrical Engineering)
E

Hello everyone,

Recently I have been accepted into both unis for a Masters in Electrical Engineering, and I would like to ask you all about the pros and cons you may find for each uni (location, student life, reputation, quality... everything).

EVERY information is more than welcome, as I am from Spain and I do not know many things you may know.

I appreciate it a lot, THANK YOU!!

How hard is to get into NYU grad programs?
E

I would like to do the MS in Electrical Engineering ar NYU Poly, but I do not know how difficult is to get in.
- I am from Spain.
- My GPA converted is 3/4, but grades here in Spain are always lower. A 3.9 GPA here is almost impossible (I hope they take this into account).
- I studied Bachelor degree in Electronics and Automation Engineering.
- One year internship at General Electric.
- Currently working for a consulting company called Everis.
- Final Degree Project accomplised in England, in an International program.
- Im 23.

Thanks basically my profile. What do you guys think?

Confused between M.Sc and M.Eng
E

Thing is, I want to do a masters in the US, and I do not want to keep studying for the Phd after the master.

And, as I have seen, pretty much all universities offer M.Sc programs, and just a few of them offer M.Eng (which is supposed to be focused on working after the master).

Do you guys think choosing an M.Sc and NOT go for the Phd, will be a good idea? So, start working after the masters, I mean.

Master in Electronics Engineering and Computer Science WORTH?
E

Thanks for replying AOE26, but it is actually not a duplicate.

The only word that might sound repetitive is "worth", but if you keep reading you will find out that the question itself is absolutely different.

Plus, taking into account the number of post per day in this website, I dont think a similar question will hurt.

Anyway, someone knows something about it?

Master in Electronics Engineering and Computer Science WORTH?
E

Hello everyone,

I have already studied a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Electronics and Automation, in Spain. The thing is, that is already an specialization.

Do you guys think that a "Master in electrical engineering and computer science" in the US will be worth? I mean, is it going to be advanced enough to actually be worth? Or I am probably going to repeat again the same studies.

Lets suppose that it would be in a top university. A good one.

Thank you in advance.

Master USA...really worth?

Hi Electron23... grats on the BSc.

When you say "worth the money" can you expand on what you hope to gain from it, how you intend to use it and where?

Thanks for your answer!

I hope to gain some extra knowledge in my major (electronics), and I would like to use it either there (trying to get a job there with a visa) or in Europe, working for a higher level company, since I imagine having a masters degree in a good university from the US will open many doors...

Those are my guesses... but I dont really know if that is too optimistic or its a good approach...

Hi Manuel,

I can really not advice you as I don't know your personal circumstances, where do you plan to work etc Most Europeans that come to do a master in the UK, they do it for one of the following reasons:

1) Enter the job market in the UK (it would be much harder with a European undergraduate degree);
2) continue for a PhD (increases chances of funding);
3) go back home (where they already have an established career) with extra qualifications.

A self-funded master in the US is worth only in case 3.

Thanks for your answer!

Master USA...really worth?

Hello everyone,

First of all, I would like to introduce myself since this is my first thread in this forum. My name is Manuel and I just finished a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Electronics and Automation, in Madrid, Spain.

I would like to ask if you guys think applying for a masters in the United States is actually worth the money, since we all know they are crazy expensive. The masters I would apply for, would be a masters in electrical engineering.

Thank you very much.
