Interview - what to ask about

P

Hello everybody!

I am new to this forum - this is my first post :)

I have a interview for a PhD programme this week. I am already kind of prepeared as it comes to the scientific background, however I would like to get any advice on what should I ask besides scientific topics, i.e. what would you ask if you were to have an interview for your PhD once again? What things are important but very often overlooked during such interviews, etc.

Looking forward to hear your replies

Regards,
Paul

this is something that always bthered me about interviews cos I always felt I shuld have some questions prepared and then they'd get covered in the interview, I always feel stupid asking nothing. Anyway maybe something about social aspects - how many other PhD students are in the lab group, do people socialise together, etc as especially if you're moving to a new place you can end up feeling isolated if there aren't other people about.

I always found it good to ask to talk to one of your potential supervisors current PhD students. When I got offered the PhD I am doing now I asked for a phone numbers of one of their students and did not accept it until after I spoke to them.
You could also ask what kind of journals would your PhD work be targeted at

You could ask about any caloborations the reserach group has with other unis/ industry and you could ask about what oppertunities you would get to present your work and then obviously if there is any aspect of the experimental design that you want to clarify that's what I did at my PhD interviews i'm sure these are really standard things that most people ask tho'. Hope this helps
