Qualitative or Quantitative or MIXED?????

C

Hi everybody........
m looking for some clarification.
I am planning to conduct a study for my dissertation and this is what i have planned. There will be the following kinds of data
1. questionnaires on student motivation (will provide quantitative data)
2 questionnaire on school effectiveness ( -do-)
3. questionnaire on problems in school ( -do-)
4. interview on perceptions of school (qualitative data)
5. classroom observation. (qualitative data)

Now, i plan to convert the qualitative data from interviews and class observations into quantitative data by assigning scores to the categories.
Is this an accepted mixed method research.

It sounds like a mixed methods case study, though there is no need to do this:

"i plan to convert the qualitative data from interviews and class observations into quantitative data by assigning scores to the categories."

you can synthesis/interpret qualitative and quantiative data together without having to convert it to one type. Mixed methods allows this.
