Research writing experience for students whose english is not their first language

F

Dear all,

Maybe many of you are from nations where English is not your first language. Then, you would have the same difficulty in writing research paper or thesis in English like me. I'd like you both English native students and non-English native students sharing experiences on how to write research paper and thesis. Advices for improving writing quality and speed are greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much ,-)

Hi friend,

Thanks for your advice. It is necessary to read and sometimes read heaps of books and articles. But do you think it sounds too general. It is like 'keep reading and writing'. I open this thread in a hope that we could describe our experiences as 'detail' as possible. I have learnt some experiences from some PhD colleagues too such as keep reading and writing as I just cited, and forming a group and helping each other to do peer review, presentation, ... But there maybe lots of tips that we could share and help each others to improve our writing and also research.

However, I greatly appreciate your sharing and advice. Have a good weekend and keep sharing our tips

Sorry I can't help you....
This is what I did when I started studying for my first master.... Since then I did a second master and now I am in my second year of a PT PhD... During all these years, as I am living andworking in anothre country, this is what I have been doing to improve my english and to start writing more "academically"!

if you have time you can do what you described above to improve your language skills, funface. my time is spent reading, reading and reading only and of course writing. I agree with what Emmaki posted and as a full time research student, i am unable to find time to sleep. if anyone has great tips on improving language skills please share it with us.
