Hi all. Just started a PhD in ecology and am being sent off in a direction by my supervisor that I could never have envisaged from the PhD title. It is not a direction I want to go in and the thought of spending 4 years doing it fills me with dread. Is it possible for me to change the direction of the study even to the extent that it is quite different from the original title?
Wouldn't mind doing something totally different to be honest but don't think that will be possible!!

I have just started a PhD in Ecology and am currently full time. I have 2 small children and am worried that I have taken on too much. I think it would probably be more sensible to do it on a part time basis. Has anybody got experience of changing to part time and if so did your supervisor approve? What happened with funding? I am currently funded by the university so think that may help. Any advice very welcome.
