I have never had one before so I don't know what to expect. Any one any tips or reading literature they can reccomend?
It is 10 days away and I haven't started yet. Plus I work full time.
I don't actually know my subject area really well so I am really worried.
Perhaps there should be some more information on this for students.
I have since found out I am not entitled to claim for any government assistance (jobseekers allowance, housing benefit, etc) if I fail to find a job straight from finishing my Doctorate due to the shortfall in national insurance contributions. Luckily I am in a stable relationship so won't be living in a cardboard box just yet.
However for those of us who aren't so lucky to have family and partners then I am not sure how the government expects you to live in the interim of finding a job when you are not allowed to claim from them?
Further to this for anyone else who is registered part time writing up, very skint and hoped you maybe able to get some assistance whilst completing your thesis in readiness for a full-time job.
You are not entitled to a sausage from the government for gaining an education, not even allowed to claim for your contributions to be paid due to the shortfall in national insurance contributions.
