Well done, that's brilliant!
You Are 50% British
Congrats, mate. You're are probably British.
(If not, definitely Australian. Or Kiwi. Or Canadian.)
You enjoy most aspects of mainstream British culture, without being stereotypical about it.
You also have a typical British temperament. You wouldn't dream of being impolite.
But it can't be truuuuuuue! (goes off to have existential crisis). Canadian, forsooth!
Not cirrhosis, I don't think, there's a perfectly good cognate for that. These are really general/conversational, for instance 'mal de X' basically means something's wrong with X. Not doctor's report territory.
Anyway I'm sure Olivia's friend knows and maybe you've already got in touch now.
I'm not a native speaker either, but use to study Spanish a lot. Those don't strike me as terribly technical. I'd say
-chest or breast problem
-heart diseases
-inflammation of the liver (is it "hígado"?).
You probably still want to ask a native speaker though - preferably from the same region as your text.
I think if you were going to take other theses as models of style, you'd need to be pretty selective, seeing that some examiners are grouchier about this than others. For all you know if you've chosen one at random, maybe the content was great but the writing style was barely passable. Certainly I've read a few in my own area that would make your hair stand on end.
However, it's not a bad idea, I just think you might want to check out people's opinions about particular ones, or use published stuff as models.
They do say pets mirror the owners...although I hope that's not true in the case of 'my' fish. ;-)
Ooooh I see.
Uh-oh. Maybe it wasn't pregnant? Just as well I hadn't bought tickets to Sheffield to visit it!
Flowers or donation if there's a funeral?
Bonkers.
lol Rubyw...I'm afraid such definition warp is by far the least worrying aspect of the strangeness.
Chris, sharp objects & sleep deprivation = bad mix.
Lara, I'm sure it's not in the least shite, not after all that mind-bending work, but I guess we're all familiar with that feeling! I'll bet it will magically look a lot better to you when you've had some rest.
I fell asleep at 5 and didn't get up until 10:30, which was not in the plan!
Well done Lara, how exciting that you're nearly finished!! maybe there's hope for the rest of us :p
...and Chrisrolinski, am so impressed that you've been back at it for hours already :$
My link to databases (EEBO & ECCO) has mysteriously quit working tonight, so am congratulating myself for having already downloaded all the stuff I had to have for references. Could do with a Coke, though (and I don't even like it)!
Trying for this sub-section by 3:30...
I agree with the previous post - but of course (in arts fields) it also depends what American uni, what British uni, importance of your supervisor in relation to the specific area... Established contacts between institutions can help as well.
