I'm currently applying for PhD positions in Chemistry. I've applied to at least a dozen, and I'm starting to think it's not going to happen this year (although I'm going to keep trying). If I can't get one this year, what is the best thing I can do in the meantime to boost my chances of getting one next year? I currently have a 2:2 BSc (Hons) and an MRes (Merit).
