chrisrolinski's last month of the thesis progress thread!

C

I got feedback on my thesis. The supervisors think I will be good to submit in c.1 month. I got some good encouragement on sections of the thesis, but the current problem is that certain sections of clumsy text ruin some of the best "brilliant" (yay!) parts of the thesis. So I need to re-write these sections, including the introduction, conclusion, and parts of two chapters. My proofing and formatting is also currently very loose and there are a few sloppy thought explosions on pages that need qualifiyng and clearing up. I need to have a good think about what I have done and use that to sort out the introduction.

With c.one month to go (I will set a definate date next week) I will chart my progress on this thread.

So close to handing it to the examiners! Just need to keep it together for 4 more weeks!!

Roll on 12 hour writing days!! (sprout)

Keep at it, it'll soon be done, and it will be such a wonderful feeling I remember it well :)

Well done Chrisolinski. The hardest part... actually putting the whole thesis together... is over! You'll have it in submittable form before you know it!! When you are ready to submit though, make sure you check it through thoroughly. I thought I had but am now finding little silly typo's! It's frustrating! Good luck with the next month!! :-)

C

Thanks! :-) I find it encouraging to see people on here who have already finished and gone on to other things :)

I had a meeting yesterday with lots of critical feedback and some encouragement. The hand-in will be on the 30th June 2010.

I am sititing down now to make wall charts of what needs to be done every week until then.

I couldn't ask for better feedback from my sups, which is good. Each problem is flagged up with possible solutions and new content to add...

Good stuff, Chrisrolinski! We'll all be cheering you on. And thank heavens for good supervisors. I'm giving them stuff tomorrow (I'm hoping to submit in September) and I already know that there will be LOTS of criticism, because that's how they roll, but they always make the work so much better.

Go go go! (up)

K

Good luck Chrisrol! I've always been intrigued to know what area of history you're researching.. (I'm literature but from things you've said I think we might be looking at a similiar time period). Tell me to mind my own though if you like :-)

B

Yes good luck Chris. I'm curious about your area of history too. I looked at a 17th century local court and its records for my Masters dissertation. My PhD is 18th/early19th centuries though.

C

I will PM you both with my topic, I would cringe if my doctoral advisor could somehow identify me and my neuroses on here!!!!

A

Good luck Chris!! Just keep plodding on, at least you now now that you've got good stuff that you just can fix up and you're not starting from scratch again!! You can and you WILL get there!! (up)

Getting scared now! So much to do and little time to do it in what with part-time work for sustenance too! :-( Nocturnal writing is messing up my bodyclock too!

C

26 days to hand-in now. 30th of June as the deadline. Which means I need to take it to the binders on the 28th.The external examiner has been appointed. I still have much to do. Entire vast sections of text to re-write! Have very little movtiation. :(

A

I'm not much good at motivation help unless you're into the tough love kind....just keep thinking of how good it will be to have submitted, and the only way to that is through the pain of the final corrections, it's only 26 more days and then you have submitted. Just one day at a time, it seems like you've got a lot to do, but you can do it. Give yourself a day off to remember what life is like, then use that as motivation to submit so you can have lots of nice days back again!

C

Thanks, trying to sort out the introduction as we speak. Reading my external examiners work for tips. Her writing is so elegant and interesting - no way I can do that!

S

Wow, just think, you'll be done by the end of June and have the summer to relax and prepare for the viva - such a massive incentive - I'd give anything right now to be in your shoes and sooooo close :-) Keep going!!!! Oh, and I'd also be really interested in your topic, another 'historian' here - I'm 19thC ;-)
