Decission between MBA and PhD programs

P

Hi,

I have a Master in chemical engineering and have been working in consulting for a year now. I am currently thinking of either doing an MBA or a PhD. I have always been interested in topics ton the borderline of technology and economics. However, the decision between those two appears to be an either-or decision. Do you know PhD programs that deal with both - technology and economics?

I have heard that MBAs are considered a bit old-fashioned these days, so a better option might be to create your own idea for a PhD programme and find a university with a supervisor that is willing to take it on.

What do you want to do in the long term? As far as I understand it, an MBA is only worthwhile if you do a really good one, and they seem to prefer people with rather more working experience. I'm guessing from your post that you are interested in the N American model of formal PhD programmes with a taught element before the thesis? If so, you could look at Georgia Tech perhaps - I'm sure there are others too. But given how long US PhDs take unless you want an academic career, would it be worthwhile?
