ESRC - Still not heard anything

T

I applied for a 1+3 studentship and have still yet to hear anything. Is this normal? and if not does this mean it is a bad sign?

Thanks for any info people can give.

I'm kind of in the same boat with a BBSRC case award. Ive asked around and apparently I wont get anything until I show up on the first day and have like LOADS of forms to fill in.
It might be the same for you too.

I have applied for the AHRC. Some people got their reply a week ago, but I am still waiting...I was told that it is a good sign, but more likely it depends on the geographic area you are in. I think letters are sent in batches, so it probably means that our unis are last in their list! Last year I got my letter of rejection in early September!Patience, patience...and good luck for yours.

the ESRC guidelines state that all university registries should inform their students at the latest by august 7th. so if you haven't heard anything yet, perhaps you should make a copy of the passage in the guidelines which states this, and go to your university's registry/financial support office. or perhaps write them a friendly e-mail in which you also quote that passage.

good luck!

I don't think it's a bad sign in the sense that it means you didn't get an award, I found out pretty late about my award and went through the same thing of thinking that because I hadn't heard anything it meant my proposal had been rejected. I think it will just be down to your university - maybe the person who handles these things has been on holiday and didn't adequately sort it out before they left or something of that nature.

I guess the only way it could be a bad sign is if some calamity has happened with the postal service when you sent the application in, or for some other reason they didn't actually receive the application (or your university hasn't received their response). That seems unlikely though - I know that my university put a self addressed postcard in with the application to ensure it was received. Given that tomorrow's Monday maybe you'll hear something then. Good luck!
