finally submitted...just about :)
A

Well, I submitted on Monday! Finished the thesis on Friday, printed and bound it but the submission office was closed, so I just took a copy home and checked through it over the weekend - blimmin good thing I did, there were tons of mistakes!
Felt very strange looking at it and seeing my name on the top, it took until about Sunday to get used to seeing it and knowing it's mine! On Monday I fixed all the mistakes and reprinted necessary pages, then went to submit...and they weren't going to take it. Turns out you can't submit if you have books overdue from the library (who cares about library books just before submission?!) so I had to phone all over the place to get a manager who could remove the suspension and let me submit, as I couldn't get my hands on the books that day (snow :( ) and I absolutely had to submit on Monday! I was fighting back tears by that stage!
But it's in now, I have my little slip of paper and everything, and it feels great!

Massive massive thanks to everyone on PGF who kept me going, especially over the summer!! Viva prep time now! (up)

ahhhh....

I did my first ever (work) all-nighter last night, got my stuff done, references and all, extra graphs, corrections, cover pages, lists of tables, lists of figures and all, racing against the clock to get everything printed and bound on time to hand in...and then, the List of Abbreviations appears. I had forgotten about it, and couldn't think of what to do, so at the urging of everyone in my office including staff, I will just bind everyting on monday when i get my abbreviations done. I have got 3 copies printed, one is bound and im taking it home to show off to everyone, cos I'm so so so chuffed!! Tired beyond belief, have had 4 hours sleep in 2 days, but I'm finished!!!

Thanks for all the lovely thoughts folks!!!

I'll admit Star-Shaped, there was a random tear, but mostly I was fighting the urge to fire my laptop against the wall. I've been doing them all day, turns out there were LOOOOOOADS that I hadn't got in my reference software, so I've been hunting refs, so so boring and time consuming. Meant to submit tomorrow and still have some corrections to do, and about half way through refs! not good! I'll not be sleeping much tonight I think!! Good work on the positive meeting though, I always find that helps boost motivation!

...aaaaand all the references I've just done have all been wiped just as I went to save. Starting again...really here all night now :-s

Congrats Bilbobaggins!

um...can I get in on a bit of this PM action Wally?! My viva is just after Christmas, yay!

When to include Acknowledgements?!
A

Thanks guys!
The uni regs I have for my thesis are literally 4 lines, we aren't even given a font size or type, just so long as margins and spacing are correct! There is nothing in them about the acknowledgments, but I think I'll include them at the start, most people I know have done so what the heck! :D

When to include Acknowledgements?!
A

Hi everyone
I'm just wondering when I should include my acknowledgements in the thesis, before initial submission, or after the viva before my final submission?! I'm really unsure what to do!

Whoo demonstrating is over for the semester, so I've got time for PGF again! yay!

So, today's master plan - get the whole layout of the thesis, overall Abstract, cover pages etc all sorted today. I'm meeting my evil k**b supervisor tomorrow so I want to have everything done in case he decides to land another pile of corrections on me. Still have to finish going through references, but will do that the same time as the final read through.

Happy Monday everyone :)

Think I have discovered the secret to preventing myself from procrastinating...super insane business, having to be in several places in once and having twenty different things to do. I've not been on here much lately as I've been flat out doing work for my supervisor which has evolved into doing work for 3 other people and the whole mini-project he assigned me has snowballed into something waaay bigger cos now everyone wants in on the act. Add that to final corrections, talk at an international conference, job applications, one interview and teaching work, with travelling 1.5 hours each way to work everyday = no time to even think about procrastinating! And I have yet to start writing 2 papers....

on the plus side, I absolutely MUST submit this week, so come Friday I'll be a very very happy bunny! And I was talking to people at the conference who think my work makes perfect sense and is good stuff, so that helps come viva time!

Plan for today - go over general thesis abstract, and do one abstract for a chapter.

endnote, refworks, mendeley or other?
A

Sure it does Sneaks :) its a normal reference software, able to do everything that endnote etc can do, although I don't think you can create your own style yet, But it has APA, Harvard etc. The difference is, that with MEndeley when you import an article, it automatically extracts all the information form it, so you just import from the website as normal, or you can drag and drop a paper into Mendeley and it will just pull out the bibliographic info. You need to check through it of course, there are occasional mistakes but it's really handy. And you can use Mendeley to serach for papers in your field and it will give you the current most read authors, papers related to current news stories etc.
