I'm glad you finally know who your examiners are, although I haven't got much good advice on how to prepare for it. I read my thesis a few times before my viva, and didn't turn for my mock viva because I was more worried about that than the real thing.
i.e. my preparation was rubbish... but I passed with minor deficiencies a few weeks back. I don't think I really did myself justice (the first hour was all about my introduction and I said "I don't know" quite a lot :$) . I got into it more as it went on, it didn't feel anywhere near threee hours though 8-)
I'm in a science-based field too, and my final conclusion is as follows... (I have two results chapters).
1st paragraph has a couple of sentence summarising the reason for the research, followed by a couple of sentences on the results found.
2nd is summary of background/results/discussion of first results chapter.
3rd part is the same but for the 2nd results chapter.
4th part is a small paragraph that aims to bring together the two chapters.
The entire section is only 4 pages long
:p
I'm trying to find a job :-( so... lots of internet searching and trying to make myself look awesome ;-) It's not really working though.
Apart from that, there's watching tv. I've looked at my thesis for about ten minutes since submitting. AND I have a mock viva next week :$
I moved into a house with my boyfriend at the end of my 2nd undergrad year, when I was 20 and he was 23. I've just submitted, and we're still living there.... me at 25 and him at 28. He's not my boyfriend anymore though, but my husband to be :p
We're renting off his parents, his Dad bought the house as a bit of an investment. This is however a bit of a bad idea for two reasons..
1. his mother is clean freak and we get shouted at virtually every time they see the house because there's dust on the curtain rails or on the top of doors. It drives me mad :-s
2. They keep making snide remarks about us not having bought the house yet. I'm currently unemployed, the last thing I want to do and can do right now is buy a house.
Hi guys :-)
I submitted in August and have my viva coming up in November, with a mock two weeks before. I feel like it might be time for me to pick up my thesis and look at it - but I just can't do it!
I've tried to at least flick through it, but I felt this rush of panic and then I closed it again.... it's literally the last thing I want to look at, and I'd be happy if I didn't have to read it ever again....
:-(
Any tips? :-)
Half my thesis is published anyway, and nothing happened in the other half! :p I made a cake at the weekend for a friend's party, but there's still some left. I had some earlier with a cup of tea :-) I might bake some more later this week.... :-x
I wouldn't know where to start with a proposal..... :$
Anyone else in the same position as me? I submitted about a month ago, my viva is in November. I'm trying to find a job and it seems like a seriously pointless task.
I'm so bored at home by myself all day :-( Sometimes I actually wish I was still writing my thesis because at least it was a reason to get out of bed in the morning (and I hated writing my thesis....!) :-s
I'm currently awaiting my viva, so not quite finished yet. I actually wish I was still writing my thesis, because it actually gave me something to do and it was a reason to get out of bed in the morning! :-s
Trying to find a postdoc position somewhere, but it's rubbish at the moment. It's all skills I don't have, and in industry it's all experience, experience experience.... I currently feel like the most unqualified person in the world :-(
Mother in law reckons I should try working in a supermarket for a bit ("I know it'll be a bit soul destroying, but...") and to be honest it seems like a good option. Hoping it'll get my confidence going up somewhat :-(
