Writing my thesis!! Sob Sob!! Long for the day it will be finished.

Have you tried Nature job sections? I would not worry PhD posts do pop up through out the year but the majority tend to be around about now to start in Oct.Could you not speak to your old uni lecturers and ask for their advise on the application process? What areas are you interested in study? What do you want to do with your PhD? Thinking about such questions may help you pick an area of study. Oh and a bit of advise if you get to interview dont mention that you had to stay in the area as they may think that you are only interested in the project cos its nearby.

Think its true we can all be perfectionists but chances are when your supervisor looks at your chapter they will completely change it any way. Your supervisor can always advise you on how to link each section of your work!

I understand!! Am currently writing up my thesis at the moment, and found that because the september deadline was ages away I just sort of messed about. However now I have a post doc position starting in June and that was a great motivator to get it finished.I really enjoyed my PhD but did get stuck in a rut while writing. Think the trick is to just do one section at a time then bring it all together. Set a daily goal of what you would like to achieve. Its a waste of energy worrying but thats easier said then done.

Dont worry too much!! Its a transfer viva (first year) so they will not be expecting loads of data. Usually a first yr viva mostly consists of a lit review with a few result. Am sure if you want to present your extra data they would be happy to listen. A viva is also useful to get some feed back on what you have done and possible suggestions on future work. Its not in their interest to attack you.
