Things we miss...

S

So you look like David Coverdale then? Here I go again.....

S

Nah, I had you down as the David Coverdale type. In fact, is this you?

S

Okay, so if we put this altogether, is this an accurate representation of DanB?

S

It's the big hair which did it. The beard is an essential requirement of any academic, male of female.

S

BTW, have you seen Peter Jackson lately. Man does he look different!

Sylvester: I was given a packet of jolly ranchers the other day. They still exist.

S

Cool, I'll look out for them.

Anyone remember Pacers, the minty chews from the 1980s?

P

yes , they were green and white weren't they? Waht about when chewitts were 10p?

Inspired by this thread I think I am going to do an 80's power ballad playlist for te old iPod.

Take my breath awayaaaa aaay

S

Don't forget to put Heart - Alone in there. In fact, These Dreams also qualifies.

S

Another one for you all, the original rock hard Wham Bars with the fizzy bits in. Took an hour to eat one of those.

T

Ooo yeah and those highland toffee bars!

F

You can still buy highland toffee, someonebought them out recently. I miss chocolate (I have a dairy allergy, and choc gives me migranes & my lips swell up a la trout pout). Also, exploding candy was good, must avoid buying old sweets at: http://www.aquarterof.co.uk/

Sorry to post something vaguely serious in this otherwise hilarious thread but...

DanB said "THe other day I got a certificate for having attended some training courses here at uni ! FFS I'm 25, doing my PhD, I do not need a f**king attendance certificate ! Shall I send it back with an angry DanB type letter?"

They give you these silly-looking certificates so that people can prove that they have been undertaking continuing professional development (CPD). They might not be useful to you now (unless you are already a member of a professional society?) but in the future if you do join something (Royal Statistical Society perhaps?), and particularly if you achieve chartered status, the society will stipulate that members must undertake CPD and the annoying certificates are proof that you have!

(Otherwise DanB I completely agree with you about the ridiculous level of PC rubbish that infests our schools!)

To get back on topic, I remember loosing 2 wobbly milk teeth on a Wham bar which I was eating on the school bus on the way back from the swimming pool - ah happy days (not the swimming lessons, evil psycho swimming teachers!!).

T

swimming lessons at school were crazy..

I am still waiting for the day when I need to get changed into my pyjamas and jump in to a river to save a rubber brick
