the majority should be your own work but getting help with various technical details is fine as long as you give the correct acknowledgements so then it is easy to identify what is your contribution.

it took about 6-7 months from start of project to acceptance. although it was kind of rushed because we knew there were competitors around. had there not been it would have been more like a years work.

For me, 6 hours/weeks is comfortable and anymore than 12 hours starts to affect my PhD work.

tbh at this point in her career doesn't she want to be last name on a paper rather than first? to show that she is a research leader and guiding her students towards bigger and better things?
