I thought I would probably be waiting for while, but sometimes it's hard to tell yourself that! I've been working with a potential supervisor on my proposal and have said as much on the application, so hopefully it will go straight to him. I'm self funded as well - just don't ask me where I'm going to get the fees from

Sent in my application for a part time PhD last week, got a letter from the research office at the weekend saying they'd received it and would write again when they heard from the Dean of the relevant school.
Am now in that horrible place where it's all I can think about and I'm really impatient to know whether it's a yay or a nay! Anyone any experience of how long it takes? I know it will vary from uni to uni, but at least a rough idea might stop me from scaring the postman every morning!

It's true that everything seems to go wrong at once
I had a similar problem with a credit card payment once, if you ring the company you booked the holiday with and explain what has happened they should refund you the extra payment you made. They might also give you the over the limit charge, it's worth asking - you might have to send them proof that you've been charged. Good luck!

I'm in the middle of applying for a self-funded part-time PhD and that's just about the process I've gone through so far. I identified and contacted a potential supervisor first, and he's been helping me with my application. Once that's gone in to the research office it will be looked at and offered around the department to find a second supervisor (assuming the first still wants to take it on!), then I'll probably have to have an interview and if that's ok then I'm in!

I make jewellery, it's amazing how therapeutic stringing beads and twisting wire can be - and then you get to sell the results so double winner! You don't have to be that artistic either, there are plenty of books and magazines around with designs that you can copy or play around with if you are feeling creative. I would definitely recommend it

I've been looking through some of the previous posts and am now starting to panic!
I'm in the middle of applying to my local uni to do a part-time self-funded MPhil with the possibility of transferring to a PhD after 2 years. I've been in touch with a potential supervisor who has been helping me with my application. So far so good, the problem is I've been looking at the kinds of things that are asked in interviews, and one thing that keeps cropping up is the final year project - the problem is that I didn't do one! I've got a BA and a BSc and didn't have to do a dissertation for either - is that going to be a major black mark against me? I'm passionate about the topic I'm applying for, and I know that I have the skills to be successful, just can't prove it :o(
Any ideas?
