If you weren't doing this, what would you be doing?
J

I'd love to turn my jewellery making hobby into a career so would probably try to do something with that

After 4 months started my PhD study...
J

I've been told by the uni that I'm applying to that it would be advantageous to start in Sept as I'll be able to attend induction sessions (although being PT I'm not sure that I will) but that theoretically I can start at any time in the year

awaiting a yes or a NO!
J

Field of study is health psychology, the charities are mainly small local ones that provide small grants for women in education so I figured it was worth a shot.

The place is dependent on the interview, hence the nervousness!

Have you had a response from more than one place then? Are you past the interview stage?

It's part time so will have to find £1600 which could be worse. Got a few local charities to apply to so I might get a contribution from them, otherwise I'll have to beg, steal or borrow from somewhere!

I've only applied to one uni, it's in my local area and the Professor that I approached I really want to work with. I've had a lot of contact with him, he's been really supportive which has been fantastic.

What about you?

Me! Although still got to have the interview - I know I've got one just don't know the exact date yet. Have never been so nervous! The worst part (for me anyway) is that if it's a yes, I've then got to find the fees from somewhere...

Good luck with yours, hope it's a yes

Questions about PhD's
J

I'm going straight to a social science PhD with a BSc, no masters.
Am doing it part time self funded though so can't help with the other question!

Helloooo..... Guess who's back?
J

A newbie - hoping I'll be able to stick around, am waiting for a PhD interview and the advice I've had so far on here has been fantastic. So thought I'd add my congrats too

Congratulations H

Had a postdoc interview today
J

So sorry to hear that 404

When they say self funded....
J

I'm hoping to do my PhD part time (am waiting to hear back from my application) so will be self funded. It's the only way I can afford to do it. I work full time, but in education so I work school hours and get the school holidays, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to fit both in without too much trouble.

No experience to share I'm afraid, but fingers crossed for you

hayfever...! anyone else suffering?
J

I get really bad hayfever too, I was terrible a few weeks ago but it seems to have calmed down a bit now. I don't like antihistamine tablets, like you they make me drowsy which is no good! I tend to use a combination of a nasal spray and eyedrops, depending which bit is affected - although I tend to find that if my nose is bad and my eyes are just a bit itchy that the nasal spray sorts both out.
Hope that helps!

hello all, new to the forum
J

Hi Jennifr,

I'm still waiting to hear the outcome of a PhD application, but have found this forum invaluable already! The support is great, and it's good to know that there are people out there who know what you're going through

Anyone with two PhDs?
J

I did the same thing SeaBird, I've got a BA and a BSc - got totally fed up with my first subject so after a few years did something completely different with the OU. I can understand people wanting to continue studying, I love learning things (does that make me sad??)and am waiting to hear the outcome of a PhD application.
Count me in for the beach yoga

Anyone have any cold remedies?
J

Chicken - especially if you've got a runny nose. Chicken soup is the best cos it's east to swallow and the heat helps. Apparently something in chicken helps to reduce the swelling in your sinuses.
