Writing Thesis - discovery process
L

Well .. it is much better if you combine the results for A and B
in one graph which in this case will proof your point . However, this will provoke the reader to ask more question about the reasons this improvements in results obtained in B case i.e. more writing in the discussion section. Meanwhile it is also possible you just mention B results but you have to say why did you get good results with B (i.e. changing in variables X and Y have improved the results). It is actually all relies on the reader ... is he looking for results (only wants the B results) or looking at the method used (protocol followed) (looking for A and B results). The bottom line present both . I hope this will help ... good luck

really boring dilution question can anyone help.. having a blonde moment!

well .. you can follow the molarity ratio equation

( M x L )stock soln = ( M x L )prepared soln

so the M and L are known for the prepared soln (50 / 11000pmol) also
the M for the stock soln ... filling the known variables
you will calculate the L (volume) required from the stock
soln to prepare your soln.

if you have 100ml of 0.01M (1mM) and u want to prepare
50 / 11000 pM (50 / 11000 x 10-12 M) in 1L

then = 0.01M x ?ml = 50 / 11000x10-12M x 1000ml

so with doing all the math = you need to take 5x 10-6ml
of your stock to prepare for example the 50pM in 1L soln.

i hope this is right though

paper authorship .....
L

Hi guys .. i was wondering ... is there any difference if the first author is with a second author or with many authors in a paper.
In other words .. is it better a paper with two authors or a paper with 5 authors ? what is the significance ? i know that there is a point scheme for authorship but is there any thing else !

Thanks Cryogenics .. actually i faced a hard time with my supervisour to read the pre-final draft of my thesis as he is not in the UK and he is in Malaysia !! it took him four months (may be more) to read one draft .. i asked for some assisstance from my co-sup to do some readings for me !! I told my sup. in malaysia that i decided to submit and he said to me i can submit but the thesis is not strong enough and at the same time he told me no need to send him any drafts to read which is ironic !! on the other hand my co-sup told me that my thesis contents and the amount of work done made my thesis reach to the standard that it can be submitted for examination and he also told me not to worry that much about the written style as the viva will give me the opportunity to clarify all vague points that the external couldnt understand and the fact that english is not my first language. I am just not keen to hear you have FAILED.

I have submitted my thesis end of last may ... and i feel worried cos i feel my thesis is week and not strong as it should be (written english). I have a brilliant/suffecient amout of work reported in my thesis which consists of eight chapters and i have one published paper in a very pupolar journal in my field and one conference paper in an international conference (poster presentation). Do you think the way my thesis written will effect the outcome of my phd viva .. do the external examiner will critcise my way of writting .. what is the worse could happen !!!! are my publications be a saviour ?

Actaully i have dont a MSc from nottinghma in applied biomolecular technology and to be blunt and straightforward with you .. it was CRAB. The science given was for third year Biochemistry and Nutrition biochemistry undergraduate course. I didnt add any much to my BPharm knowledge. The course was not worth the money the i have paid for £10000 as i am an international student. I advice you to go to the Times website and find out which universities ranked best in Medical Sciences it may help you descide which uni/course better off with.
