Well this was my idea then I took ages to reply to it and admit how many tomatoes I had done! I did eight yesterday which was ok but not great. Aiming for eight again today; did four before work then hoping to do another four when I get home, soon hopefully.
I think it is best for writing up as I too put my new word count in the comments box each time, however I am editing at the moment so it feels like I'm not doing an awful lot in my tomatoes!
Thanks for all the replies - hopefully we'll be able to carry on the tomato accountability for a while!

I have been stuck in a bit of my own rut lately due to various things but have been getting out of it this week - Mytomatoes.com is definitely helping!
I know there have been threads on this before but think it would be nice to have a new one - I'm interested in how many tomatoes people usually do in a day as it would be nice to have people to compare myself to! I generally aim for 10, but that is alongside a p/t job as well.
Maybe we could have a bit of tomato accountability as well? :-)

Would be very grateful if anyone could access this, my university is only subscribed until 1999 which isn't very useful when it's such a good journal for my subject!

Thanks in advance :-)
Well I haven't let my PhD get in the way of my grooming - I am actually growing my hair now (6 months in), it is just past my shoulders and gets washed and blowdried every day, thankfully it is naturally straight so doesn't take too long. I also put extensions in on average 4 days a week, then it is like bra-strap length.
Maybe get a Brazilian blowdry or something like that (Keratin blowdry also) so it is permanently smooth and takes less time to do yourself? Expensive but I've heard very good things about them from people with long and/or thick hair. I was in hairdressing pre-PhD so I like threads like this!
I agree with Sneaks, probably best to say that you are a researcher and I doubt they'll ask anything else. And yes I do get tarnished my the student label - not when looking for a flat but looking for a boyfriend, i.e. dating - I think they think I'm a gold digger!
Good luck with your flat hunting :-)
I'm way off my own viva but while waiting to go in for my research plan approval meeting (I was terrified) my supervisor told me that her viva was only 20 minutes with no corrections, and that it was good psychologically because they were running late and she was early so they kept her waiting for about 10 minutes - a really small thing but she said that it puts you into a better position; they were running late for my meeting as well.
Hopefully I'll have something a bit more interesting to add to a thread like this in the future, and I'm enjoying reading about others' viva experiences.
Beefy: I wonder if she tactically thought about wearing stockings or whether she does all the time?!
Would appreciate it if anyone could find these for me, it seems to be rather a rare journal....

Hi - in my opinion it is best to stick to natural remedies, like a nutritious diet, daily exercise and enough sleep. Supplements you could take are omega 3, 6 and 9 oil, chromium (regulates blood sugar levels and reduces tiredness and a good multivitamin.
However, I will admit to using other things sometimes and while I wouldn't usually recommend it, they do help me. I am on other medication that can make me quite drowsy sometimes, and I have to combine my full-time PhD with a part time job and a bit of teaching so my life is quite full-on and demands quite a lot from me in terms of concentration and time-management. On a really busy day when I need to get a lot done, generally once a week, I take a diet pill that speeds up the metabolism and it really enhances my concentration without making me hyperactive or anything like that. The effect is quite subtle, but it is there. I didn't get it from a shop but from a private dealer and she assures me that it doesn't contain amphetamines (I wouldn't take those). My mum has been on them for years and although she doesn't really agree with me taking them, I think they are essentially harmless. Maybe try something like that, but start at a low dose and don't take them every day.
