How many PhD places did/have you applied for?
P

I applied for 4 funded PhD projects I found on findaphd.com.

1 answered and asked me for an interview and accepted me for the position.
The other three never gave any notice. I emailed one project, but they said spots were filled already.

My girlfriend applied for 2 projects (not sure if it was 3) and both were negative.

Dirty library in Wales

Is this the normal thing that you can bring food into libraries in the UK?

Here in central Europe it's totally forbidden. You can't even bring a drink in the hot summer.

SPSS graph help needed!!!
P

Word has problems with some picture formats and the images look really bad in word.
Can you not export the graph as a jpg / tiff and then import it in word. maybe that changes something.
Which file formats can you export to in SPSS?

the easiest way for you in this situation (although I would have written the thesis in one big file... seen a few ppl do this. always wondered why...)

either get Acrobat or FreePDF and digitally "print" those files to separate pdfs and then combine them to one big pdf.

If you need help with that, just give us a shout ;)

Which area of Biomedical Science is in demand?

Why not study something similar for your MSc? I did my BSc and finishing my MSc right now in Biomedicine. Great overview about everything (topics, methods...). Specialisation then comes with my PhD and hopefully PostDoc ;)

Edit:
I'm sure it's helpfull to read through some Nature journals. Like the actual "magazin" I mean. Just found that out myself recently that there's a ton of articles in the journal besides the actual research papers. Always interesting stuff and nice input about research at the moment.

qPCR plate at 4°C

Ok cool. So how many hours have you been storing them plates exactly? How far would you extend this?

Thanks very much ;)

qPCR plate at 4°C
P

Hey,

how long could you prepare qPCR (SybrGreen) plates in advance before actually running them in the machine?

The machine here in this lab is so busy and belongs another lab, so they have booked all the nice slots during the day and what's left over is fed to the rest...
So I was thinking of preparing a plate the day before in the evening so I can come in the next morning very early and just have to put the ready made plate in.

Any ideas/suggestions to this problematic?

Thanks.

That's good to know.
Often had it that exactly the page I needed was missing. ;)

Apart from the fact that you yet can't change the citation styles in an easy way (had to write my own CSL style) I just love it. Does everything I need and I love the online account, so I have my data everywhere I need them.

Thumbs up
