hi! I didnt do anything today! Was too stressed up over an important letter sent by special delivery--and the recipient said they did not receive it!
But I checked the website to track it --and VOILA! it had been promptly and safely delivered--and someone signed for it!!!
So how could they say they did not receive it!
I was so crazy about this, I couldnt concentrate all day. So now I have just come home--and I'm going to cook something nice, have a nice shower.... and read some papers tonight! :-)

hi everyone, hi BLue
I'm sorry to hear your hair is thinning but all is not lost! Have you gone for a health checkup? For example if there is an issue with hormones and thyroids, your hair could thin as a result, but when you have got your health balanced then the hair will grow back. Something like that.
Also, other factors like stress..
what do you think girls? I heard that neem is very good for hair (any ideas, bug?).
Tomorrow is Friday--and the end-result of my search for hair dye is that my friend now says she will do it for me on Saturday because going to the salon is too expensive!

hi Su
I recommend:
Andy field's discovering Statistics and SPSS Ed.2 or 3
SPSS: Version 16 Statistics without Anguish by Coakes and Sheridan
and other books depend on what analysis you're going to do.
But I love these two books.
The one by Coakes and Sheridan is very short and easy but very little explanation.
You can find lots of tutorials online, usually ppt files loaded by professors. just google t-tests and you will definitely find something. But the problem is although you may be able to learn how to do the test, you may not understand FULLY why you have done so (the process) etc.
If I were you, I would eat humble pie and ask my labmates, make friends with them and ask them.
If you want to ask silly quesitons, now is the time.
Learning something by ourselves is one thing, having people explain it to us is another.
Lots of students dont know about statistical analysis, there is nothing to be ashamed about. In fact most of us start from scratch; for example for my masters I did F test without knowing why I did it, I just did it because everybody did it but didnt understand why. I did reasonably well for my undergraduate Biostatistics module but that was to get a good score, only for exam purposes. I just learnt without understanding properly. So I didnt really know. See?
Now I am doing my best to learn it up properly in case during our phd viva, somebody asks us why did we do this and that (about statistical analysis), then we would be able to answer confidently.
good luck and dont give up

hi Sneaks
how are you this morning?
yesterday I managed to finished some writing and sent to my supervisor. I was so tired I slept almost 12 hours. I also had a very strange very long dream. My mother was driving a go-cart past a cemetary. And people were lying on the ground near the cliffs (near the sea) complaining of headache. I was rushing to help them so I ran into some kind of place and there were lines of people waiting to enter some kind of separate hall. What a dream!!!
Anyway I'm going to wear my new dress!!! After that I will read a paper in the afternoon!
Here I go!!!
May we all have a productive day!!!

hi Jemma
first port of call is (of course) your supervisor if he has funding to support you.
next google "travel funding" should come up with something.
have you checked Psychology societies? Look at their websites and see. Some associations do provide funding but you have to be a member.
Also if you are applying to a conference, sometimes they have Student/Scholar Awards; you can also apply for funding like this.
best wishes satchi
hi again :-)
how about going out and buying yourself a new dress? :-)
Dont think so much...
sometimes I like to go window shopping, doesn't hurt to look and I dont have to pay anything :-)
This weekend I'm going to get my hair coloured so thats something to look forward to.
have a nice day!
hi Lin
you already had the interview with the supervisors, and it was great!
You are right when you say "now I can do is nothing", you just have to wait.
I agree with you that the waiting period (for a scholarship offer) can be stressful and worrying.
You can strengthen your competitiveness in OTHER applications (by writing better proposals, letters, research ideas, improving your cv, taking up some credible course to add in your experience and cv etc.). HOwever your interview for this particular scholarship is already finished, you should just wait and see (for this one).
Because we want something so badly, it also hurts us very badly.
If I were you, I would "let go" a bit of my desire for this scholarship, just take a step back and breathe, relax.
Go and do something nice for yourself. Applying for a scholarship--and taking the interview is a lot of hard work.

hi ziggy
I applied for my phd from an advert posted on this site. I dont remember any space (am I so forgetful!). But I found the links (clicking here and there) to the supervisor of the project and emailed him.
Cover letter is always needed; after you find out more about your chosen PhD (research idea, supervisor, department, university etc.), you will know who to address it to.

hi again I just remembered something: since I was meeting my supervisor almost every week, of course there was the Christmas Break so I didn't see him for some 2 or 3 weeks.
And----!!!!! guess what
I really MISSED my supervisor! hahahaha
has that happened to anyone? The relationship with my supervisor is strictly work-related but I missed him a lot during the holidays. Perhaps I just got so used to the routine (almost) weekly meetings.
goodnight

hi girls its so nice to hear about what we do with our hair! bug you are so lucky to have great hair!
I havent picked a hair salon to go to yet and thats because I didn't go out today (as planned).
There is also one thing about my hair; I walk everywhere (I dont have a car to drive) so however nicely I style my hair, the wind always blows it flat. So I end up looking scruffy. It looks like it will always be like this :-(
How about hair masks; natassa can you give us some tips. I would like to make my hair thicker (or perhaps give it the ilusion of looking thicker), how does that work.
thanks satchi
hi kollantai,
what do you mean by mini disk? Sorry i dont understand. I'm also a mac user; for recording interviews I use my cheap Nokia handphone. The files are transferable. I also use a cheap Olympus recorder bought off Argos and the files are also transferable.
I have an ipod touch but I havent bought the external mic yet so I cant tell you about recording on an iPod.
I was planning to buy the earphone with mic so that I could speak on skype on my ipod but I still haven't made the purchase yet.
hope this helps.
