how will endnote react to putting 2 chaps.together?
S

Just wanted to update on my 'disaster' on putting all chapters together in a new document. The formats got messed up, double space things went single spaced, most of all the reference list did not appear 'magically'. It kind of for one chapter but at the end of the table of contents and only after the headings for that chapter. Its such a long document now, I just feel it's going 2 crash and headache to look at table of contents as it takes forever to get to top.
HELP! (Have the copies separately though, so no major damage)
:-(:-(:-(:-s

query abt eurostar travels
S

I agree with the previous reply. It's always better to leave half an hour for imm.check and for us the thing was they only let you board the train nearer the time it leaves, so be aware that the train is long and you might have to walk about 5-10 min to your carriage (as the previous poster said). we got into trouble as we got panicked and got into wrong one and got down again etc...
This is far better than the airport checks and even the journey is so pleasant, the food is a bit pricy so if you are really skint, a tea flask and sandwiches is a must to take in. The midi station in Brussels is not the best compared to UK.

What do you do if you miss deadlines...
S

...or have you never missed a deadline. This is mainly regarding writing-up chapters. I have missed one, can't seem to write an explanation as I hate giving excuses such as being ill or family responsibilities (these two were the reasons actually) :$

Thank you Sneaks. Just the info I needed from someone who did that. Now I can do this without getting a panic attack ;-)

another supervisor from hell
S

I am so sorry to hear this:-( I have no experience in dealing with such a problem, but I'm sure there would be few people who have got through such 'monsters' and hope they will reply to you. All I can say is that, if you can probably best to report this person as no one should get away after making such comments. Hope your mother is better now. Student councillors or reps of grad school might be an answer. Please talk to someone you trust as it can also help in the meantime.:-x

how will endnote react to putting 2 chaps.together?

Thanks Wal, (Sorry for shortening your name). I was looking for a easy way out by asking someone who has done this & not ending up in a disaster. time is of essence to me and didn't want to do it if this does not work. I was actually thinking about doing the same but got go back to writing, will try this when I have a spare hour or when I feel sleepy (if it becomes a disaster then it would certainly wind me up big time and sleep would not come near me for a while ;-)

how will endnote react to putting 2 chaps.together?

This is a technical question and it is what I have written on the title but want your personal experiences on this. I want to put two chapter together (or maybe should do this at the end of all chaps) and have put references at the end of each chapter.

1) Would it work If I cut and paste them in a new doc?
2) should I cut the second chap. and paste it to the first chap. ?

Don't want to try without getting some help from someone. really scared of what muddle I will get into.,-)

You can do it too!
S

Congratulations! (up)
It's a great feeling I suppose to throw all those drafts away. You have a done a pretty amazing job considering that you turned a 1st draft into final within one month. At the moment I'm taking one month to re-draft just one chapter (not the best writer also), but I'm at the beginning of my writing (maybe mid-point) and can't spend a whole day on this.

Enjoy your success, how long were you given for the corrections? and how long are you planning to take for them?

Not complaining really...but am tired of the lifestyle...

Hugs...:p

Sorry to hear you are feeling down..I have similar days, but from my experience the only thing that gets me going is the fact that there will be no end to this (sometimes) writing marathon if I never finish. So that gets me going and keeps me awake at night, hence being on nocturnal thread so many times.

Keep the end goal:-)  in mind and maybe try to have a reward at the end of a day or week to get out of this misery. I forgot abt writing today and went shopping with kids (not the easiest) and it was a great relaxing outdoor experience and surprisingly I even wrote a para in between domestics, which I never thought I could do:$. reading other books-even trashy novels seem to help me in keeping the enthusiasm about writing and the key for me is the variety. These activities should be included (taking a walk after finishing morning/afternoon writing) to make a more meaningful life amongst this writing madness.

always remember or even have a banner on the wall of the end date or at least a month and year. countdown to the d-day might help (up)

A reason to delay submission
S

Hi there, same situation with me. I was going for a dec submission but now its more like before April next year. These dates are just rough deadline me & sup. agreed so there is no real problem for me. Although I don't want to delay the submission but just changing it according to my writing progress. right now I'm abt 3 months behind on my planned finished date. But things happen and kids are so unpredictable (being sick :-(

I would assume that personal responsibilties  i.e.family issues do count as they are a part of you and whatever slows your writing need to be carefully considered by team.

What are your super saying abt this. Are these dates very rigid? Have you gone beyond your registration period? What ever the reason you put in, your super might need to fully support you to get through this :-)

The night train is getting full and I like it when people are around.

AL take it easy, as Sue said once everything settles in you will find a suitable working pattern.

Bilbo, good on you for being very productive on your working days, being part-time that is imp.

Sue & Teek, let all keep on working and no coffee for me thanks, hot water keeps me going.
thought I should changed my hat acc. to the cold weather ;-)

Joining in for a few hours ..all depends on kids waking up & my sleepy eyes.

Teek, you & I are in very similar situation today..I have been so busy (domestic stuff, relative) that this week word count is zero. very frustrated with everything even with hubby who is not helping around the house. These are the boring everyday things but somehow affect my work in a major way.

Enough of that as you said Teek, let get on with writing with whatever time we have now. I made a good plan actually, couldn't even get it printed out. first thing tomorrow morning to get it printed. It was too general and didn't have a specific task for each day, have to go into detail and tick off tasks. Maybe I could finish the intro by mon (wishful thinking as only written 2 pages):-(

keep writing Teek, word by word it adds..I will stay as long as I can but have get through this initial sleepiness

Bilbo, AL, Sue-well done for working on a sunday night. (up) I think we all are chasing the deadlines and I never saw weekends as off days as long as I get a break now and then.
Not a great day for me, recovering from a cold and a cough so want to take it easy unless I will be down for days. I'm sleepy so don't think I will be here for long.

Just made a plan for writing the intoduction and discussion of the next chapter and got all the articles together. Some I have read couple of times and others need making notes. This time I will just write notes in a word file so I can edit them to become part of my chapter.

Task: Complete the gaps in the results section before tomorrow as according to my plan I should strat the intro. Don't think iw ill make it but have to try.(up)

Thanks AL. I hope you will get through the task tonight. I just spent some time organising lit.for next chapter, have a big folder, just need to get some writing going on before I get overwhelmed by the task ahead. But I'm calling it a night.
Good luck to any other night owls!
