I'm soo glad to see other people on the thread! I was feeling rather lonely:$

My goals have been changed completely as I've just got some feedback from sups so will work on it as it's my top priority and do the others later... tbh, I've not even started any of them as been busy chasing other things up sighs... the stress (down)

Hello to anyone who might be around working on this very fine day! Especially if, like me, you wished you were outdoors enjoying the sun!

Goals:
- do a last check on the reviewed chapter
- review another chapter
- write a bit more of the preface
- check my appendices are all in
- double check on the formatting of the appendices

@Sneaks - I hope the alarm got sorted:-(

@Naturalme, Sneaks and anyone else lurking around, I hope you're having a productive day.

Mine hasn't been that great so far. I had loads of motivation this morning but it's worn off over the day. I've been stuck on goal 3 for about 2 hrs now and I'm dreading 4, so change of plans. I'm going to finish 3 and go back to doing more menial (but still necessary!) things such as referencing, formatting and appendices.

Reflections on finishing
S

Thank you for sharing your tips and congrats on finishing your revisions! Very well done(up)

Good morning!

@Naturalme, thanks. It was a bit of shock, followed by denial and anger but I finally gave in and just moved on ;-) how are things going your way?

Goals for the day.
1) format more references
2) write a few more words on preface
3) finish reviewing one chapter
4) start (and maybe finish if I work really hard!) reviewing another

It'll be a tough day but time is ticking and I still have lots to do so the pressure is on!

@Squaredot, I'm not sure I could have written it all again, no...

@Lindalou - lol, you better start now then! I used to have an external hard drive where I'd just back up the whole computer as it was just easier...

@Claudia - thanks for the tip, I tried that but the formatting well a bit crazy. I couldn't sort it out so had to opt for the risky strategy.

I've found a way to decrease the size now, so fingers crossed, I should be ok. Plus I got another usb for back ups exclusively and I'm backing up every hour now!

Why am I using a qualiative approach apart from because I am rubbish at statistics!
S

A few suggestions, but like Lindalou said, it'd depend on your research question:

Inductive approach is recommended when:
- the field is stagnant
- it needs new ideas/concepts
- there's much controversy on previous findings
- not previously done, so no insight from the point of view of those involved in the phenomena to be studied
- you could also potentially argue that none of the available models fully explains the phenomena and therefore you need number new ideas (no 2 above)

I can probably think of a few more if none of these apply but to be honest, I don't think you can justify doing qualitative solely based on not being to work on SPSS. Sorry as I'm sure this is not what you want to hear! It's just that if the methodology is not appropriate to the research question, they you're going to struggle when it comes to interpretation and relating findings to the theory plus the dreaded viva!

Don't they have courses you could attend? Or maybe you could go to some of the stats lectures for other courses? Sups also help with that!!

Sorry Catalinbond:$ I didn't know how else to call the thread...

Well, my thesis was already divided into two, now it's in three pieces and although it's ok to work on, not sure how easy printing will be. Oh, well, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it...

I know!! Completely agree with you Cindrella, these things are just unpredictable and you never know what and when stuff is going to happen. How weird about your text disappearing though :-( Yep, I do the same, I back up but keep the old versions. Handy when your sup tells you to take something off and you find you can homely add it somewhere else ;-)

Rina, as Cindrella I've been keeping copies of my backups as I go along so if you asked me for a copy from 2 months ago, I'd have one. I've chopped lots of things off over time thinking they may come handy one day, and some did so I was glad to have had copies. All I do is to save files with the same name but different dates so for example, my current copy of the appendices is called 'appendices 2909' so I know that's the copy from 29th Sept. That's the one I lost, so I'll have to open appendices 2809, save as appendices 2909 and work on this new document if that makes sense. I work out of a USB stick, but have copies in my laptop and my PC. You could also use something like dropbox.com, but I don't back up the whole computer per se, just my work... hope this helps.
